The Premiers and Development team have finished their season.
There was an early goal and a late goal for Bays, one allowed and the other disallowed for an offside call on the wrong player.
Bays took the lead in the first minute after Western Springs conceded an early free kick wide on the left. Zane Olla placed the ball right on the head of Dillon Barnett who made no mistake giving the visitors an early lead.
It took Western Springs another fifteen minutes to strike back and they equalised with a stunning drive from Oscar Ramsay, which gave Aidan Gwilt no chance.
Both sides gave each other grief during the remainder of the half but neither could find the back of the net. The Western Springs keeper, Adam McDonald made a fine save from another Olla free kick while good defending denied Barnett and Avi Estrin was just over from a half hour attempt.
At the other end Gwilt made a good save to deny Roussin Nkoy and the defence foiled a break by Cheauxyan McPhie.
Two injury enforced changes for Bays just before and during the break saw Jason McKeown make a welcome return to the side and Jack Anderson was just wide early in the second half.
The game settled down into trench warfare with both sides robustly defending the opposition attacks. Just after the hour, Western Springs had the ball in the net after Gwilt dropped the ball but the foul had already been blown up.
Both sides tried the long ball approach in an endeavour to breach each other’s defences. The Bays defence twice denied Western Springs on the line before launching their own attacks which came to nothing.
As the game moved towards stoppage time, Bays attacked and Olla prodded the ball into the net only to see the flag raised for offside on a different player. Not the first time in the game, that dubious offside calls were made affecting both teams.
A much improved performance from last week with Jack Beguely outstanding in defence and Olla in midfield.
