The Premiers and Development team have finished their season.
Talk about a game of two halves. The first was all East Coast Bays and they should have been further ahead by halftime. The second half was a complete turnaround with Glenfield scoring early and then killing off the game with three goals in the space of four minutes, all from set pieces.
It all began so well. A ninth minute Bays offensive, Glenfield failed to clear and Dylan Stansfield headed in from close range. Bays continued to pressure with Jack Beguely blocked by the defence twice, Kieran McMinn denied by a super save from Sean Dowling and Dillon Barnett also blocked by the defence.
At the other end, Sidan Gwilt saved a point-blank shot from Daniel Ellensohn.
The loss of Stansfield after half an hour to a suspected concussion was a setback, but further chances went begging during the half with Jack Anderson, Lee Robinson and Matt Pitts all just off target.
What was said in the Glenfield change room at halftime is not known but they came out firing and were on equal terms within three minutes with Ellensohn netting from close range.
Then just before the hour came the horror four minutes. It all started with a corner, touched over by Sam Matthews, scrambled off the line, but signalled as a goal y the assistant referee. Two minutes later, a free kick was given away by Bays and Kris Carpenter scored with a header.
Glenfield then won a corner, it was poorly defended and Steve Holloway banged the ball into the net. Bays were down 1-4.
Up against it, Beguely missed from in front and Barnett was denied by Dowling.
Joe Bresnahan then hit the upright and Avi Estrin put his chance wide.
The final strike came late in stoppage time when an AJ O’Toole strike evaded Gwilt.
A poor performance especially in the second half.
