The Premiers and Development team have finished their season.
On Sunday 06 July the 9th Grade 1st team, coached by Dave Wood traveled to the eagerly anticipated Papamoa tournament.
It was a beautiful day and the grounds were in great condition. Most families came down for a night or two, so the boys were well supported!
They won the first two pool games 1- nil and 4 – nil and drew the third 1-1. This placed them second in the pool (based on goal differential) and set up a semi-final with Fencibles as the winners of the other pool. It was a tight game and after a nil all draw it went to penalty shootout where goal keeper Dylan Glen dismissed all attempts and Ben Rapley made the one that counted.
For the Cup final we played Cambridge Hatrix – the team we’d drawn with in pool play. It was a tough match, and Cambridge scored early in the first half. Many second half attempts by the boys to draw level were well defended by Cambridge and an awesome strike by Hunter Sosich in the final minutes went just wide. The final score remained 1-nil and the team received their second place medals from former NZ International players with big smiles.
Player of the Day was awarded to Dylan for simply awesome goal keeping. The team members were Ben Rapley, Brendan Acfield, Ethan Strong, Ben Rodgers, Orlando Thorpe, Ian Lim, Dylan Glen, Hunter Sosich, Nic Gaze, and Cam Heaton.
The boys played very well right through to the final and thanks to the club, coach Dave, manager Adelle and parents and supporters for a rewarding tournament experience.
