Team Bouvet win at Forrest Hill

Team Bouvet’s first Tournament of the year kicked off with a decisive performance over Eastern Suburbs, scoring 4 unanswered goals.  Game two of pool play we faced the ol’ foe North Shore defeating them by 2 goals to nil.  Game three, a team we hadn’t faced before and knew nothing about.  However, Team Bouvet notched up another victory and another clean sheet, winning 1-0.

Due to being unbeaten in pool play we found ourselves in the Championship Quarter Finals against another team we have not played before, Ellerslie.  We struck early, scoring almost straight from the kick off.  Ellerslie did their best to equalise but even under the pressure ECB managed to get a second goal, taking a 2-0 advantage into the 2nd half.  Ellerslie continued to apply the pressure in the 2nd half and eventually broke ECB’s defensive line.  End result 2-1 over a determined team.

SEMI FINAL:  Every team’s nightmare at a tournament, coming up against a fellow Club Team, ECB Wood - Development Squad.  ECB Wood hit the field fired up, closing down ECB Bouvet’s players quickly and disrupting our passing game.  ECB Wood’s goalkeeper Evan Stoltz pulled off several fantastic, crucial saves to keep his team in the game.  However, with only seconds remaining Aidan Lehan broke away down the left hand side and shot from 12 yards out beating Stoltz on his near post to take the victory.

CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL:  The tournament organisers couldn’t have planned this better, with the host club making the final.  ECB Bouvet saved some of their best football for the final, and they needed to, with FHM coming out strong.  However, a clumsy tackle in the penalty area gave ECB Bouvet the early advantage with Tyler Bindon stepping up and placing the ball low in the left hand corner.  Early in the second half Bindon put his striking prowess on display again, shooting from about 18 yards out, blasting the ball into the top right hand corner.  Even the NFF Referee applauded the goal!!  The final result, a convincing 3-1 win.

The Forrest hill tournament started an hour late due the overnight rain.  We were ready for,the first game against Bay Olyimpic.  The team took awhile to wake up and the game ended in 1 - 1 draw.  The next two games were much better and we won both of them 4 - 0.  After  a quick calculation it was agreed that we would be playing the top ECB 9th grade team for a place in the final.  Unfortunately the score keepers did not see it that way and a debate was entered into.  The correct decision was  finally  made and we prepared for the semi final.
We decided to change our tactics for this game and it nearly paid off. It was a game of very few goal scoring opportunities and the the goal that separated the teams came in the last few minutes.
Congratulations to Ecb Bouvet team for winning the tournament.
Once again the only team to beat us had won the tournament.
Thanks to the team and the parents for effort and support.
