The Premiers and Development team have finished their season.
The battle between two of the top clubs in the league proved to be a real contest in which a game of football occasionally happened. A very physical game right from the start saw a flurry of cards issued early and it seemed that not all players would finish the game. However the cards seemed to settle the players down, although the contest continued.
Both sides had chances in the first half with both keepers pulling off some good saves, but the scoreboard was untroubled and the first half ended 0-0.
The second half was another hard fought contest although neither team was able to dominate. A poor clearance almost cost Bays early in the half and both sides were managing to find the opposition with the vital pass that could be a game changer.
Breakthrough came in the 77th minute. Dave Ellensohn cleared the ball quickly to Brock Messenger, his pass found Eric Jones-Seekie who slotted the ball through to Dillon Barnett and he fought off his challenger to finish clinically.
The goal fired up both teams. Vlad Frank, the Wanderers custodian, denied Baptiste Azame and Ellensohn punched away a dangerous cross. Wanderers threw everything at bays looking for the equalizer and Kris Carpenter headed off the line as the minutes counted down.
Then with time almost up, bays broke from defence, the ball was played out to Jones-Seekie who took off down the right flank, got close to the bye line, crossed the ball and Jason Hicks was on hand to finish off from close range to make certain of the points.
Team: Ellensohn, Darkwa (Barnett 54), Carpenter, Edginton, Wynne, Munday (Azame 67), McKeown, Beguely, Jones-Seekie, Hicks, Buswell (Messenger 64).
Scorers: Barnett 77, Hicks 90
The Development Team were outplayed and well-beaten by Hamilton Wanderers 4-1. The only time the got the ball in the net was to put it in their own goal. Wanderers helped put by scoring for Bays.
