The Premiers and Development team have finished their season.
A strong wind whipping diagonally across the ground didn’t help the players who put on a sub-par display against Onehunga Sports who appeared the more motivated of the two sides.
The first quarter hour saw play drift back and forth in midfield with both sides failing to make any headway. Bays made the first good move when a great pass from Kelly Escolme split the Onehunga defence but Nathan Buswell couldn’t control the ball and the chance went begging.
Onehunga Sports opened the scoring somewhat against the run of play in the 26th minute when poor defending allowed Josh Ming to nip in and tuck away a goal. Bays hit back straight from the kickoff when a Luiz Del Monte cross found
Escolme and his header gave the Onehunga keeper no chance.
The game came to life for a short time with a Dillon Barnett cross just cleared and Ross Haviland blazed a free kick over the bar for Onehunga.
With half time approaching a sustained Bays attack saw a Jason McKeown drive turned for a corner, from that corner an Escolme header crashed on to the crossbar and Kris Carpenter saw his header saved by the keeper.
The second half started well with a Del Monte free kick just skimming the crossbar and Barnett forcing a good save from the keeper.
Unfortunately from there on the game degenerated into a scrappy affair with Onehunga frustrating Bays getting first to the ball and tackling like demons.
Deklan Wynne, Carpenter and Joe Bresnahan all tried long range efforts without success and Onehunga almost snatched the game in the final minutes when Tim Hayhow got through but he hit his shot straight at David Ellensohn.
A fair result but Bays would not be happy with dropping points and its getting awfully congested on the table.
Team: Ellensohn, Messenger, Carpenter, Edginton, Wynne, Bresnahan, McKeown, Del Monte, Barnett (Seekie 70), Escolme (Halkyard 86), Buswell (Munday 49)
Scorer: Escolme 27
The Development Team were well off the pace in the first half and were down 2-0 at half time. A Zane Olla goal in the second hald was not enough and they lost 2-1.
