The Premiers and Development team have finished their season.
Bays opened the 2013 season with a 4-2 win over reigning champions Bay Olympic in a cracking game at Olympic Park.
The early minutes saw both sides checking each other out with attack and counter as the game flowed back and forth.
Olympic’s Ken Yamamoto had the first strike in anger but his 11th minute attempt blazed over the crossbar.
Five minutes later a Jason McKeown cross to Nathan Buswell saw Olympic’s keeper Roy Bell get a hand to the ball seconds before it reached Buswell.
Both sides reverted to trench warfare for the next twenty minutes before Yamamoto had the ball in the net only to be denied by the linesman’s offside flag.
Bays hit back minutes later when a peach of a pass from McKeown put Kelly Escolme through and he calmly slotted past the advancing keeper to give Bays the lead and they held this until the half time break.
Olympic came out guns blazing after the break and Yamamoto saw his drive saved by David Ellensohn. The keeper then blocked Jono Key and cleared the resultant corner allowing Dillon Barnett to break but he shot straight at the keeper.
Olympic then lost their skipper Craig Wylie just past the hour for a silly foul on Emmanuel Darkwa which resulted in his second yellow card and subsequent red.
It was attack and counter for the next few minutes until Eric Jones Seekie who had just come on as a substitute latched on to a through ball from Escolme and outstripped his defender then left the keeper in his wake With an open goal before him, Eric Jones was about to pull he trigger when a flying Ryan Walden lunged in to take he ball off his toe and concede a corner.
Walden required some medical attention after his great block but the resultant corner from McKeown saw Esclome and Phil Edginton both leap for the ball with Escolme getting his head to it and putting it in the back of the net.
Olympic struck back minutes later, forcing a corner allowing an unmarked Craig Squires to head over Ellensohn into the net.
This score was only going to last less than five minutes as a break down the left by Deklan Wynne saw him find an unmarked Eric Jones with a perfect cross which Eric Jones then headed back across the keeper into the corner of the net restoring Bays two goal lead..
Brock Messenger had come on as a substitute and his pace down the right flank was proving too much for the Olympic defenders. His first run found Escolme who was blocked by Olympic’s Daniel Jones, his second burst saw Squires get a leg out to divert the cross to safety.
However it was third time lucky in the 88th minute when Messenger again got past his defenders crossed the ball and Baptiste Azame was on hand to finish with a fine goal.
Olympic refused to lie down and with virtually the last kick of the game, Shane tanner hammered home a twenty metre piledriver to cap off an enthralling game
