East Coast Bays Newsflash - October 2012


The football doesn’t end just because spring is in the air, read on to see what’s been happening and what’s going to be happening at ECB over the coming months……..


ECB Premier Team

The Premier Team had a very good season overall promoting many young players and consequently finishing second, five points ahead of Central.


East Coast Bays are delighted to announce Joe Daw as the Coach for the Development Team, Joe will be working with Willy and Roddy for 2013.


Good luck to……

Six Bays players who will be pushing for higher honours when they trial for the Under 17 and Under 20 NZ World Cup squads. For the Under 17s Judd Baker and John White and for the Under 20s Alex Carr, Seamus Casey, Julian Halkyard and Emann Darkwa all featured.


The first four ECB players, Deklan Wynne, Brock Messenger, Brendan Wyatt and Jared Grove are heading off to train with Luton Town for two weeks this December/January.


The Under 19 players will be travelling down for the Napier National Under 19s tournament at Labour weekend, we all wish them luck as it is the last year that quite a few players are eligible.


Whats happening over the summer months?

The summer soccer training camps will be starting on Wednesday 7th November at Ashley Park, times to be advised. Players showing first team potential will be recommended and we will have a system in place for the selection of the potential development team after Christmas.


For invited players, our Goal Keeping Centre run by Alex Carr will be starting on Monday 5th November or Wednesday 7th November at Ashley Park with times to be arranged.


Summer Soccer is back for all seniors and juniors but will be held at Ashley Park this summer.  Summer soccer will start for seniors on Thursday 25th October and Juniors Monday 29th October.


Junior Football  

The 6th-8th grade midget teams have all participated well in local tournaments.   Twenty six junior teams finished in the top three in their respective leagues.  


Girls football

Congratulations to the eight junior girls teams that finished in the top three in their respective grades.

Men’s Senior Teams

The Division 1 Team Sheehan were successful in winning the league.   Also ECB Syab won the Division 3 League with ECB Masters winning the Over 35 Division 1 League with ECB Archies Army coming runners up.     Mums Mob were successful in winning the Over 40s Plate.


The Arthur Jones Memorial game was very successful with former football greats, including Wynton Rufer, meeting each other for the first time in years.   The game was successful in raising $650 for the Whangaparaoa Hospice.


The seniors enjoyed the annual Peanut Tournament with Foreign Legion finally winning the handicapped tournament. Mums Mob won the Plate and Syab won the Wooden Spoon.     Best dressed prize was taken out by the Lady Bugs, second the Zombies and third Mums Mob Hire a Chubby.

The East Coast Bays AFC Facebook group page is now up and running, log in and join us, you can then upload your latest football pictures, advertise the next event or just stay in touch.


Look out for our upgraded website which we hope to have up and running for the start of the 2013 season.


Bay City Park grounds will be totally renovated over the summer, fields 2 and 3 and the training pitch will be fully upgraded.


An enjoyable night was had by all (some too enjoyable) at the Senior Prizegiving..



Rebeun Lee our famous comedian formerly from Archies Army held a comedy night last month which raised over $1000 towards midgets shirts, a big thank you to Reuben and to all that attended.
