Papamoa 8th Grade Tournament 1 July 2012

Papamoa 8th Grade Tournament - 01 July 2012

Firstly, special mention to Papamoa Football Club and all those involved with organising the tournament.  This was one of the most well run tournaments we have attended.  There were over 60 teams participating, ranging from 8th Grade to 14/15 Grade and as far as we could tell,  the day went without a hitch, including the weather and the results for the 8th Grade team.

In the group play we came up against Whakatane G Force, Papamoa Chiefs and Waipuna Wildfire, whom we beat 8-0, 3-0 and 4-0 respectively.  These results put us into the Championship Semi Final against Otumoetai Falcons who we brushed aside 7-0.  The other semi final was Papamoa Chiefs (who we beat in group play) against Drury United.  After normal time it was 0-0, so straight to penalty's.  It was a close shoot out which Drury United won 2-1.

Championship Final - East Coast Bays 2 - Drury United 0.

In summary, we played 5 games, scored 24 goals, conceded 0, our goalkeeper touched the ball once all tournament (and he had to come out to almost halfway to get a touch!!!).  A huge thank you to Jenny Bindon (Football Ferns goalkeeper) who stepped up to coach the team as Dave Wood was unable to attend due to family commitments.

Special mention must go to Tyler Bindon for being awarded Player of the Tournament and to Jackson Baird who came a very, very close second.
