The Premiers and Development team have finished their season.
The Development Squad moved on to the next round of the Knockout Cup for Reserve teams when they beat Ellerslie 4-1 at Michaels Ave on Saturday.
Both sides were creating chances in the opening minutes but Bays took the lead in the 14th minute when Brock Messenger saw the keeper off his line and delicately chipped him into the top corner of the net from twenty metres.
Julyan Halkyard had the ball in the back of the net some thirteen minutes later but was ruled offside. Just on the half hour keeper Seamus Casey had to make a smart save to deny Ellerslie and Halkyard blocked another Ellerslie attack minutes later. In the 37th minute, Messenger made a great run down the right flank to the bye lie, crossed the ball and Halkyard should have scored but shot tamely at the keeper.
The halftime break must have been a painfull one for Ellerslie as they ripped into Bays right from the kickoff, dominating possession and deservedly equalizing in the 69th minute.
They made the mistake of celebrating too long, the defence fell asleep, were robbed by Messenger who strode through them to plant the ball in the back of the net to restore Bays lead.
Four minutes later, Halkyard was put through by Matt Du Toit and coolly chipped the ball over the outrushing keeper to make the score 3-1.
Then with five minutes of normal time remaining, Du Toit won the ball on the right flank, cut inside beating several defenders and from an acute angle, drove the ball into the net for the fourth goal.
The final score probably flattered Bays as they spent much time defending, but under the guidance of Sam Barnfield and Brendan Wyatt, the opposition got nowhere and were reduced to shooting from long range.
Top games from Barnfield, Messenger, Wyatt and Du Toit, but all contributed to the win.
