First Kicks a Roaring Success

The First Kicks programme introduced for junior football this season has started as a roaring success. Under this scheme, juniors play small sided games on smaller pitches. 5 and 6 years old play 3 v 3, 7 years old play 4 v 4, 8 years old play 5 v 5 and 9 years old play 7 v 7.  With the smaller sized smaller pitches,  all players are able to get involved in the game. All the midgets play 4 games of 10 minutes duration with five minute break in between for coaching and explanations. Most teams also train once a week where they learn movement, co-ordination and technique.

Unlike previous years where some players could go a season without kicking a ball, all players are now involved from the start and get plenty of opportunity to display their prowess. Parents are impressed  as their children find the new format so enjoyable.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
