The Premiers and Development team have finished their season.
A new coach, a new assistant coach and an adjusted, remodelled, newly “formulated” and untested East Coast Bays Grade 11 “Bouvet” team took to the Manurewa tournament like a duck to water. It was very obvious to the eye that this team was at this tournament to win, and win they did .Although there was a very slight stumble at the end of the pool rounds,ECB” Bouvet” were on the move and that movement was towards the final.
The day commenced and continued as follows, with the results speaking for themselves;
At 9am it was ECB“Bouvet” 8 and the Clevedon Croc`s 0
At 10am it was ECB“Bouvet” 1 and Onehunga Sports United 0
At 11am it was ECB“Bouvet” 3 and Bay Olympic Aces 1
At 12pm it was ECB“Bouvet” 1 and the Glenviews Arrows 0
At 1pm it was ECB “Bouvet” 0 and Western Springs Los Merengues 0
The statistics told a story 5 Games,13 goals for, and 1 against ECB “Bouvet”
The Bouvet team waited in anticipation of who they were to face in the final and when the opposition was announced, the team confidently took their place on the field facing off to past and now present adversaries. The adversary was Onehunga Sports United who “Bouvet” had beaten one nil at 10am that morning.
The final commenced as all finals do, intense, quick with a lot of noise emulating from the two groups of supporters. After ECB “Bouvet” had taken a two nil lead, Onehunga struck back twice to level the game. At full time on the clock the teams went into extra time, and after the two 5 minute periods the score was still level. It was to come down to a final penalty shootout.
Five boys stepped up, five boys scored with Onehunga faultering.
The job was done and the Grade 11 Manurewa Pre season champions of 2012 are now ECB “Bouvet”.
The entire team made a contribution to the task at hand, with our stand in goalkeeper George doing a sterling job right up to the penalty shootout, where his last gasp save of a penalty secured us victory.
To add to our success Ethan Usher, received the Golden Boot award for the 11th Grade
Well done to Jeremie, Nikki and the team…..ECB “Bouvet”
