Three Kings United 2 ECB 3 played 09 April 201 at Keith Hay Park

In a cracker of a game, East Coast Bays came from behind twice to snatch victory in he last minute of normal time at Keith Hay Park on Easter Monday.

The clash between two of the better teams in the competition was all it set out to be with Bays making the early attacking moves. Nathan Palmer broke through early but his pass was a little too strong and Joe Bresnahan made a great run, only to see his shot cleared off the line.

Three Kings took the lead somewhat against the run of play just on the half hour. A long range drive from Jarrod Colligan slammed into the crossbar and normally would have bounced behind, but the strong wind held it in play and it fell back into the goalmouth where Sam Margetts was on hand to bundle the ball into the net.

Bays were level within ten minutes from a beautifully worked goal. Leigh Kenyon received the ball wide, carried it down the right flank to the goal line and then crossed the ball back where Dan Peat met it around the penalty spot and sent a bullet header into the top corner of the net giving the keeper no chance.

Following the half time break both teams were quickly back in action with a Peat drive warming the palms of keeper Ryan Lilleby.  Godwin Darkwa, brother of Bays’ Emmanuel, made a strong run down the left flank only to see his attempt scrambled to safety and Jeff Campbell saw his drive go just wide.

Bays gave away a free kick some 30 metres out from goal in the 65th minute and Colligan stepped up to blast his shot through the wall and into the net putting Three Kings back in charge.

Both sides upped the tempo, Three Kings to close out the game and Bays to get back into it as the minutes ticked away. Going into the last ten minutes, Willy Gerdsen threw Jack Beguely forward. Aidan Gwilt sent a long punt down field which Salesh Kumar failed to cut out, Beguely was first there and placed his shot wide of Lilleby to draw Bays level.

Gwilt  saved a dangerous Three Kings header and the ball was played long to Peat who out stripped his marker and let fly. Lilleby blocked the shot but couldn’t hold on to it and Peat pounced and put the ball into he net.

The Bays bench emptied in jubilation and Peat was booked for taking off his shirt.

Stoppage time seemed an eternity for the Bays camp and far too short for Three Kings, but the final whistle eventually went.

A magnificent team performance, with the entire squad contributing including the substitutes who fitted in seamlessly when required.

Team:  Gwilt, Barnett, Munday (Scott Campbell 46), Beguely, Wynn, Bresnahan, McKeown, Kenyon, Jeff Campbell (Darkwa 74), Palmer (Escolme 66), Peat.

Scorers;  Peat 39,89, Beguely 84
