The Premiers and Development team have finished their season.
On the weekend of the 3rd & 4th September, Team Davis went to Taupö to participate in the NZ Junior Club Football Cup. On a cold but wonderfully clear Saturday morning after chiselling ice from windscreens etc..the team made its' way to Crown Park in Taupö. First Pool game commenced at 8:45 ( 25 mins late).. The team were grouped in a challenging pool with both the Wynrs team and Papakura Arsenal, as well as an Island Bay team of which we knew very little. The boys all played well despite the interesting bobbling, tufted and trenched pitches, they were expected to play on! Made any thought of playing a passing game a joke..guess was the same for everyone ?
At the end of a magnificent day we finished top of pool and were rewarded to find out that our first game on Sunday was at 8:00 a.m. !! WHAT? on Fathers day, in the ice.!
Sundays weather was even better than the day before, with all the horror stories from year before a distant memory. First up Onslow..a game where we failed really to fire until later stages of second half..must be the early start.?
Played the Wynrs Academy team, thinly disguised as Onehunga Sports. A tough game, but one which we deserved to win by more than score line indicated.
Gulp .. the final against Three Kings United.. After having being beaten in our only previous encounter this year, the boys were up for a big game. TKU the Auckland Federation Premier winners, v's "Us" the Northern Federation winners. The scene was set, the vista perfect..a nice trophy up-for-grabs.
A hard and physical game, which see-sawed back and forth. Bays scored, which was swiftly countered by a gritty equalizer. The game continued in such a manner till a blustering run down the right flank, finished off with a superb curling shot, had the TKU shot stopper beat… Final score 2-1 . A very exciting game to watch and deserved of its final status.
