16 Teams were divided into 4 pools, after the first three games ECB was top of their pool, beating Fencibles, North Shore and drawing with Bay Olympic. The knock-out round had us playing the host club, some good football and finishing had us safely through to the quarter finals, where we met a Fencibles Red team we had played and beaten in the pool games. Again Bays triumphed and proceeded to the Semi-Final against "Birkenhead Blasters" at the end of regulation time the scores were deadlocked at 0-0. 5 minutes "extra, golden goal time" failed to change the score line. The game went to penalties. Three players were chosen from both sides, with Bays going ahead 1- nil, Our keeper (Joe Patmore) stepped up and pulled off a great save. ECB quickly slotted another goal in the back of the Birkenhead net to go ahead 2-0. Once more the pressure was on Joe, our goalie, and once more he saved the penalty. Bays were through to the Final against the Fencible Blue squad
Due the extra time and penalties the players had a very quick turnaround and were back playing 7 minutes later!
After 57 seconds an absolute screamer from Ronan Wynne saw ECB go ahead 1-0 which is where the score remained for the rest of the match, despite numerous attacks and shots on Fencibles goal.
Well done to all of the boys.. you played very well and deserve the results you earned. A big thanks to Michael and also the travelling fan club.
