Wet Weather

AFL is a winter sport. Training will be cancelled only if the ground is closed by Centennial Parklands, or conditions are unsafe (such as lightning, hail or strong winds).

Centennial Parklands’ decision on whether to close the ground is made on the state of the Oval and not on whether it is actually raining on any particular day. On weekdays, Moore Park Tigers is usually notified of ground closures by about 9-10am, but it can be as late as 3pm, and we aim to notify the club via 'Club Corner' and Twitter as soon as possible.

For those wanting more immediate and constant ground status information, download the Centennial Parklands app - this is where ground closures should get posted first.

On game day, the Wet Weather Check website is the first to be updated with information on ground closures. While we will also make announcements on 'Club Corner' and contact managers, this is updated first. The decision to cancel a game is only ever made by the President of the home club – never by individual teams.

For home games at Bat & Ball Oval, check ground status after:

  • For Friday night games, check after 10am on Friday
  • For Saturday games, check after 7.30am Saturday
  • For Sunday games, check after 7.30am Sunday

'Club Corner' is located in the Right-Hand Column of this website (just below the sponsor advertisements) and is viewable from any page in the club website, or scroll to the end when viewing from a smart phone.
