During Term 1, the club likes to hold several pre-season training sessions. This is usually at the same time as Auskick and is a fun, casual re-introduction to footy. Sneakers and casual sports gear (or favourite AFL team gear) is worn. Everyone trains together for the first few weeks, and then after time, the players are divided into age groups and teams.
Lots of help is required during this time so please feel free to jump in and have fun. Generally each group will be going over the basic skills to remember and get a feel for the ball again after the break.
It's also a great way to meet other parents and enjoying getting back into footy.
By session 3 or 4, the club will have a good idea of player numbers and will start getting each player into their ages groups and from there, if required, teams. Please speak with the Coaching Coordinator about any concern you have about the teams and playing groups. This is also the time we call on volunteers for all our coaching staff positions such as the Coach, Team Manager and Ground Marshall for each team.
If you are a Dragons player from the previous year, please re-register using the email address and password from last year. Any problems, check out more information at our Registration Information page under the Parents Page.
If you have not re-registered, for whatever reason, during pre-season training, please see the club Registrar or President to sign a "Permission to Train" form. This helps cover both your family and the club in regard to injuries during training.
New and transferring players also need to fill out the "Permission to Train" form until all the paperwork for the child's registration has been completed.
Auskick will be running at the same time as Pre-season training. It is your choice as to whether you choose to register for Auskick and join in a few session with them, or just jump straight into pre-season training. By the end of Auskick, if you are interested and registered for Juniors, your child will have moved over to their new Junior team anyway.
Term 1 training will finish with a Jumper Presentation event when your child will be presented with their playing guernsey for the season.
See our Juniors page for more information about joining Juniors.
