Coaching Roles & Responsibilities

DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL

Objective

  • To co-ordinate all football activities for the Clubs teams to ensure that all players, coaches and off field staff are provided with the highest level of support to enable them to compete and perform at the highest level
  • To provide support to the Executive and Committee members to ensure the efficient operation of the Club

 Key Responsibilities

  • To oversee all football related matters across the Club.
  • Provide leadership to all football coaches, players, support staff and volunteers.
  • Develop and maintain a cohesive Youth Boys, Youth Girls and Junior Football Programs.
  • Develop of a positive coaching and playing culture;
  • Assist and support the on-going growth and development of coaches and players;
  • To provide necessary and up to date information on current coaching trends and practices;
  • Chair the football sub-committee
  • Chair the coaching selection panel;
  • Manage coaching accreditation;
  • Conduct ongoing assessments and evaluations of all elements of the football programs
  • Ensure all football officials uphold the various AFL Codes of Conduct;

Relationships

  • Reports to the President and Executive.
  • Supports the senior coach, match committee, football support staff including team managers, trainers, runners, boundary umpires and time keepers

Accountability

  • The Football Manager is accountable to the President and Executive
  • Provide a report on portfolio operations to the monthly Committee meeting

 Prerequisites

  • Hold a current AFL Coaching Accreditation (desirable).

 

 

YOUTH FOOTBALL COORDINATOR

Objectives

  • To coordinate the youth football program

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and implement a cohesive Youth Football Program across all youth age groups.
  • To ensure the continued development, promotion and advancement of youth football and players within the club.
  • Maximise opportunities for young people to play football and be involved in the game to the maximum of their potential and enjoyment;
  • Football sub-committee member;
  • Develop youth specific recruitment and retention strategies to secure maximum participation;
  • Committed to ensuring that football development programs are conducted to maximise the numbers participating and supporting football and enable young footballers to achieve their highest potential. This may be at either Club level, or higher competitions.

Relationships

  • Reports to Director of Football
  • Member of Football sub-committee
  • Liaise with youth coaches, team managers and other support staff

 Accountability

  • Accountable to the Director of Football

 JUNIOR FOOTBALL COORDINATOR

 Objectives

  • To coordinate the junior football program

 Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and implement a cohesive Youth Football Program across all junior age groups.
  • To ensure the continued development, promotion and advancement of junior football and players within the club.
  • Maximise opportunities for young people to play football and be involved in the game to the maximum of their potential and enjoyment;
  • Football sub-committee member;
  • Develop junior specific recruitment and retention strategies to secure maximum participation;
  • Co-ordinate Junior Umpire Program together with Umpire’s Co-ordinator
  • Committed to ensuring that football development programs are conducted to maximise the numbers participating and supporting football and enable young footballers to achieve their highest potential. This may be at either Club level, or higher competitions.

 GIRLS FOOTBALL COORDINATOR

 Objectives

  • To coordinate the girls football program

  • To ensure the continued development, promotion and advancement of girls football and players within the club.
  • Maximise opportunities for young people to play football and be involved in the game to the maximum of their potential and enjoyment;
  • Develop specific recruitment and retention strategies to ensure maximum participation in the girls football program;
  • Football sub-committee member;
  • Committed to ensuring that football development programs are conducted to maximise the numbers participating and supporting football and enable young footballers to achieve their highest potential. This may be at either Club level, or higher competitions.

DIRECTOR OF COACHING

Objectives

  • To coordinate, educate and evaluate all coaches at training and on match days

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of all coaches
  • Oversee training drills and skills
  • Check coaches accreditation
  • Offer assistance for training skills and drills
  • Arrange BBQ’s, education nights etc for coaches and team ages groups as required
  • Recommend new equipment where required
  • Assist advocates
  • Liaise with all coaches, providing regular feedback on training and match days

Relationships

  • Reports to Director of Football
  • Member of Football sub-committee and General Committee
  • Coaches and Assistant Coaches

Accountability

  • Accountable to the Director of Football

Prerequisites: 

  • Hold a current AFL Level 2 Coach Accreditation (ideally)
  • Completed the Club Coaching Coordinator Course
  • Not currently coaching a team (preferable)

 

COACH (all age groups)

Objectives

  • To  team training and match days

Responsibilities

  • Organise training and match day events
  • Instruct football skills and team tactics  
  • Provide clear instruction and feedback to the team and individual players
  • Represent the club at official functions and community activities
  • Continually seek to upgrade skills and knowledge of the game
  • Have an understanding of injury prevention, care and management
  • Develop team morale
  • Promote positive club culture and practice code of conduct

Relationships

  • Reports to applicable Football Co-ordinator
  • Assistant Coaches
  • Players, Parents and Officials

Accountability

  • Accountable to the Director of Football
  • Accountable to the applicable Football Co-ordinator

Prerequisites: 

  • Hold a minimum AFL Level 1 Coach Accreditation or agree to undertake Coach Accreditation (club covers the cost of this)
  • Hold a current Blue Card
