History

South East Suns AFL Club History.

The Logan City Australian Rules Football Club was formed approximately 25 years ago.
The need to have a Junior club was seen by some players. Thus the Junior club was formed.
Messrs Finlayson and Opbroek are credited with our foundation.
In 1980 An assortment of children, between 8 and 13 years old, took to the field to begin our History.
The club was then known as the Beenleigh football club.
However, when the club moved to Alexander Clark park and away from the Beenleigh showgrounds the Logan City shire was formed from the then Albert shire (Gold Coast).
Having the club situated in Logan shire necessitated the change of name to Logan City. This occurred in 1988.

The Cobras were involved in the Brisbane Junior competition until approximately 1990, before joining the Gold Coast Juniors Competition .
In 1996 the club rejoined the BJAFL,The club was advised by the president of that time- Brian Carroll, to incorporate as a separate entity.
The Club was incorporated as a separate identity from the Senior body in 1996.
This year was also significant for our first premiership .Our Under 15 team was victorious over Mayne Tigers.
We were also visited by a Nauruan national Under 14 team . Our first international game of any sort was a comfortable win. The tourists, used to playing on gravel fields in hot conditions, were greeted by what resembled a lake. A tropical low having dropped several millimetres of rain the night before.

In December 2014 a vote was taken for the Juniors to merge back with the Senior club who had rebranded as South East Suns to mark a new dawn of AFL in Logan.
