Ron Chequer signed with Yeoman Football Club in 1980. He played 173 games in 14 seasons - 1980 to 1982 and 1984 to 1994 – with the 1992 Reserves Premiership being a special highlight.
It is worth noting that, in these days when some players pick and choose the times to make themselves available, Ron was always available for selection. That is, the dedication to the team was complete.
Ron has also served on the Committee for decades, including stints as Treasurer and Vice-President. He took on the job of time-keeper and has spent countless days with the clock and the score-checking duties ever since. His attention to detail and accuracy make him ideal for these jobs. And when the games are over, he picks up the broom and becomes the club’s number one Saturday afternoon change-room cleaner. As if that’s not enough, he then transforms into a barman.
All those aware of how much is involved in the running of any football club will appreciate how vital is the effort that comes from stalwarts such as Ron.
In addition, Ron has been a worker for the Darwin during Finals, regardless of whether or not Yeoman was still involved. His reliability and skills are well-known, so he has been one of the first chosen for the most important matches, especially Grand Finals, with the 2019 Seniors decider being the latest.
Forty years of service surely qualify Ron Chequer for election as an inductee to the special band of club members known as the Yeoman Football Club Legends of Loyalty.
Ron Chequer passed away on the 2nd May, 2020 at the age of 65. Vale Ron and thank you for your immense contribution to the Yeoman Football Club.
