Seniors
Perfect conditions for football on Saturday at Cracknell Reserve in the Hills last home game for the season and a chance to consolidate a position in Second Division. Poor disposal early in the game was costly, as skill errors allowed Fitzroy Stars to make the most of their limited opportunities, especially in the second quarter. The Redbacks worked hard in the third quarter to keep themselves within reach at the final break. A great effort once again in the last quarter with 5 goals to 3 but not enough to get the win and The Hills eventually went down by 9 points. Thankfully not too much damage to percentage which means a big effort next week should be enough to stay in second division next year. Will Box turned back the clock and played a terrific backmans game, running off at every opportunity. Brett Middleton was also solid, along with Tom Blake down forward and rucking. Jason Evans and Jeremey Gercovich were both very good in the backline again whilst Nathan Hendry was the pick of the on ballers.
Reserves
Next week we’re at Mernda again facing the fourth placed Demons so we really need to apply ourselves for the whole game so we can finish the season on a positive note. Saturday was against a classy Fitzroy certainly hurt on the scoreboard but it’s still good to see the boys turning up each week. Well done to Brassy this season keeping the boys interested and willing to don the Redback colours … maybe there’s an effort this week that will see us finishing on a high ! Good again last week was Carson Dawson along with Jamie Padget, Matt Layt, Glenn Barnes, Brad Sansom and Daniel Pratt.
Under 19s
Again undermanned and having to call on some players who were only just available after returning from injury it was expected that our boys would find it hard against the third placed South Morang on a perfect Friday night for footy at the Hill. But you should never doubt the endeavour and fierce effort that the Redback boys are able to dish up each week. With only 16 players on the field during the third quarter our boys were able to kick four goals to one and reduce the South Morang half time lead back to 20 points. It was going to be a tough last quarter and The Hills eventually went down by 59 points. Better Players were Ross Marshall in the midfield kicking two goals and Jack Jerabek with five goals up forward. These two boys were also well supported by strong matches from Bailin Searle, Liam Harvey and Max Clear.
