This week’s game was a must win for the Hills to stay in touch with the top 4. A loss would see the team fall further behind , but a win would put The Redbacks back in contention for finals footy.
In front of a big home crowd it was St. Marys who got off to the better start, kicking the first two goals of the game. It took the Hills a good 10 minutes to finally find some space out wide and move the ball forward their first major. The rest of the ¼ was a tight tussle with both sides battling hard to find an advantage, and it was the Burra who took a slender lead into the first break. The second quarter was again a tight contest, with both sides rebounding well out of defence. Simon Gunn was providing plenty of run as was Jayson Darcy-Molloy as the Hills started to take more risks and take the game on. At half time the margin was less than a kick in favour of the Burra. The 3rd started well for the Hills as they kicked the first of the quarter, Tristan Kreymborg was marking everything that came his way, Boxy was winning plenty of the hard stuff in and under and coach Joffa Byron helped push the ball forward with plentuy of clearances from the stoppages. The Hills controlled most of the quarter but were wasteful in front of goal, and as the ¾ siren sounded the Hills found themselves just in front by 7 points. The Redbacks had worked hard all day to get themselves into a winning position, and they weren’t about to let this game slip away. They came out hard and full of running in the last, and had kicked two quick goals thanks to Nathan Brundell who was having an outstanding day. The Hills were able to run away with the game in the end and recorded a 31 point victory. A super team effort from all the Panton Hill boys who worked hard right until the end. Go Hills!!!
