SENIORS
The Hills took on Parkside on Saturday in what promised to be a great match up of the only two teams left undefeated in Division 3. It was the Hills who started the better of the two sides jumping out to a 5 goal lead at ¼ time, thanks to the efforts of coach and full forward John Garrard who booted 3 goals for the term and the midfield brigade lead by Brett Thorn, Joffa Byron and Benn Parker. The start of the second ¼ saw Parkside start the better and they had a goal on the board inside the first 30 seconds. After this, it all went downhill for the Hills. A couple of Red Cards to important players, captain Will box going down with an ankle injury and Dave Vangelli a shoulder impacted on the depth of the bench. The Hill just couldn’t stay in the contest with each effort to assert some pressure being thwarted by the fast running Parkside. The Red Devils punished their opposition with a forray of goals in the second half. The Hills must now regroup and travel to Reservoir this week which always promises to be a great contest.
Some really good solo efforts were duely noted throughout the day, with Parkys leading from the front in the middle, Nath Brundell marking everything and anything down back, and the two twin towers in John Garrard and Tristan (Teddy) Kremyborg slotting through plenty of majors between them.
RESERVES
The reserves provided a massive win for the supportors of the club. The whole team performed and to see so many players playing a part and continuing to perform after the long break was great. As the players know everyone’s position in the team is on the line each week with so many players missing out on a game so the players selected must perform and attend training to keep a spot.
Although the game started slowly for Panton Hill they gained momentum as the game went on and at half time felt we could have better capitalised on our opportunities in front of goal because the score board didn’t reflect exactly how well we were actually playing. At half time the boys were instructed to get the ball closer to goal and let our marking players do the damage on the score board which is exactly what happened.
Dillon, Keeno, Grimmy and Aussie are great avenues to score so getting the ball to them quickly proved important. The midfield did a great job clearing the ball from the stoppages with Sword and little Jack again amongst the best and with Adsy and Prency playing there best games for the season so far we now have a settled midfield group. Our defence stood tall and provided enough pressure to produce many turn over’s which also resulted in scoring opportunities. It was a great team effort!
This week is a top of the table clash against Reservoir and again we must continue to work on performing for four quarters.
