Shadows Review- Week one finals

SENIORS – Sponsored by Merkon & Junto Café

Despite the huge build up we didn’t apply enough pressure to Chelsea’s midfielders around the contests. On the flip side, we struggled to transition the footy into our attacking 50 with poise to allow our key forwards enough clean opportunities. Given a huge run-with role, Matty Herbs return to form was a massive bonus for our midfield group. Willow continued to fertilise his own purple patch and seems hell bent on taking us as far as he can off his own boot and it was another mighty effort by the tireless Andy Gilbert who tried his heart out as usual. He is a DSL. Leading our defence were Donger and Kenny who were both tremendous against the odds for 4 quarters. Jackson’s marking and confidence in traffic was a real highlight. This week we turn our full attention to Cheltenham knowing too well that a week is a bloody long time in football.

RESERVES – Sponsored by Asko & StKilda Branch

This was a gutsy 22 point victory that required a 4 quarter effort highlighted by our ability to dig in when the heat was on us. Yogi Margery put on a clinic of long and precise kicking that make going to the local footy a real pleasure. Tommy backed up with another solid match whilst down back our skipper led his own ‘Balmy Army’ to repel the attacking forces time and time again. The word on the street is that if Kieran keeps this form up they will be renaming Clayton ‘Knox-field’ as he was simply too classy for his opponents and snagged 5 majors. The game breaker was 2 beautifully roved running goals to Brent Rafferty who stepped up and stamped his authority on the moment just when it was needed. This week we take on Dingley in what should be a great battle to get to the big dance… Go the Dog!!

COLTS V Skye – Sponsored by Crane Tech & Sofair McKinnon

Our boys can hold their heads up high as we fought the game out to the end and kicked 6 last quarter goals to keep Skye on their toes till the final siren. The Coaches are proud of all of your efforts & in particular the example set all year by our skipper Beau Phillips on and off the field.
