Two disappointing losses for the Bears in what were very winnable games in testing conditions in Doveton.
The reserves were soundly beaten by the Eagles after failing to capitalise on the scoreboard with the howling wind in the second term. Behind the eight-ball in the second half, the boys couldn’t bridge the gap despite a four-goal final term. Logan Webster was one of the few shining lights on a bleak afternoon, his BOG performance was easily his best game for the club. Steve ‘Scuba’ McLean fought hard in the ruck all day while Rohan Wight and Anthony O’Shea were solid at both ends of the ground.
It was close match all day and despite leading at every change the seniors were overrun by Doveton in the final term. Kicking with an absolute hurricane in the third quarter, the boys could only manage one goal to cling to a seven-point lead at the final change, which was never going to be enough in the conditions. Ash Cooper and Tim Kennedy were outstanding in the back half in the narrow nine-point loss, particularly as the Eagles attacked with the wind in the last quarter. Joel Butler, Tom Dickson and Adam Connell were also handy contributors in attack.
With winter now well and truly upon us you can ensure you’re rugged up on match day with your very own long-sleeve Bears playing jumper. Perfect for those freezing afternoons like last Saturday, the cost is just $60 and Darren Stait needs to place a minimum order of five jumpers so please see him during the week if you would like one.
The next social function is the Caulfield Bears Cocktail Night to be held at the London Tavern on Saturday 12th July. Time to dust off the suits and cocktail frocks and get set for a ripping night of live tunes and awesome cocktails. Further details to follow next week.
