A letter from the Coach

Welcome to season 2009!  I'm very excited about what lies ahead for us this season.  I can feel something special might happen.  But it's not going to come without a special effort.  Nothing worth getting comes without working for it.  That's why when pre season begins on Monday 12th January next year (venue to be advised), I expect every player to be ready for it.  This is when training will begin as a group, but you as individuals will need to start now.  I suggest 3-4 training sessions a week including:

  • 2-3 runs for at least half an hour
  • 1-2 weights sessions
  • a swim or a cycle

This is definitely achievable for everyone and will be an essential fitness base for pre-season.

I would also recommend having a go at a run or swim event, or even a triathalon over summer.  For example, I will be entering the Lorne Pier to Pub on Jan 10th and there are many basic triathalons for people of all levels.  It's good to set yourself goals and extremely satisfying when you achieve them by finishing these events.  Do them with your mates.

Watch your diet!  If you need to either lose or put on weight and are not too sure what you should and shouldn't be eating, please don't hesitate to call me.  I'm more than happy to give you advice on your diet and lifestyle to get you to your ideal playing weight.

Get stuck into the weights.  Our brand of football will be physical.  Players in this side will be expected to put their bodies on the line for each other.  That is how you will win respect from the opposition, from your supporters, and mostly, from your team mates.

Pre-season training will be every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and you will be constantly tested.  It will be tough, but it will also be enjoyable.

Don't sell yourself short.  A great pre-season will almost always lead to a great year of footy.

Feel free to call me at any time with any questions on 0411 856 402.
