About Waverley Raiders

Waverley Raiders is a junior domestic basketball club for boys & girls with teams ranging from U8 - U23.

We are an incorporated club with over 200 playing members and approximately 30 teams.

 

Where do we play?

Our teams currently are entered in the Melbourne East Basketball Association (MEBA) Junior Domestic Competitions.

The stadiums are located in the South Eastern and Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.

The club offers mixed (boys/girls) teams from U8 - U10, and separate boys/girls teams from U12 - U23.

Teams play on Saturdays (with the younger age groups playing in the mornings from 8:30am,

and the older age groups in the afternoon/evenings).

Where do we train?

All teams from U8 - U18 have 1 hour training session per week of the playing season.

The club does not offer training for U23 or midweek teams.

How much does it cost to join?

Waverley Raiders believes in keeping costs to a minimum to encourage as many young players to enjoy playing basketball.

Registration fees for U8-U10 is $160  and for U12-18 is $185. U23, Midweek and Friday night teams are $150. The fee includes training venue hire, scoresheet fees, registration and insurance.  Registrations after the cut off date will incur a $10 administration charge and players will be placed on a waiting list if all teams are full. 

It also pays to volunteer as a coach! If you are a parent who volunteers to coach, the club will waive the registration fee for your child for every season you continue to coach a team.

Registration will not be accepted without full payment. 

 

NOTE:  There is a $2.50 entrance fee for all players and spectators. (U12 spectators free)  An Inter-venue pass for spectators will operate between all venues.  Ask for the GEBC stamp on your hand at the venue where you first pay.

 

Playing seasons and age groups

There are two seasons per year.

 

The Summer season runs from October through until March with a break from mid-December through until late January.

 

The Winter season runs from May through until August though games are not played on the middle weekend of the school term holidays.

 

To play in the Summer competition a player must be under the nominated age as at the 30 June of the current year.

(eg: to play in U12's for Summer 2015/2016 Season, the player must be 11 or under at 30/06/2016.)

 

To play in the Winter competition a player must be under the nominated age as at the 31 December of the

previous year. (eg: to play in U12's for Winter 2017 Season, the player must be 11 or under at 31/12/2016).

 

 

How do we select teams?

As a club we try to select the strongest team per grade and age group.

This process involves the Age Group Coordinator and coaches assessing the players, in action on the court, their skills, attitude and potential. We will endeavour to be as accountable as possible when selecting teams, with the best 8 players being selected per team/per grade. 


Waverley Raiders doors are wide open to all, from beginners to very experienced A-Grade players and an effort will be made to ensure every registered player (before the cut off date) is in a team that is suitable to the skills they have. 

 

 

 

Uniforms

The cost is $48 for singlet and $48 shorts.  

 

Newly registered players can collect their uniforms on Presentation Day at the end of each season.  Please contact the uniform coordinator to arrange a fitting (see the contacts page for more information) if you are joining mid season.

 

As a description, the club colours are: Light blue playing singlet, with white pin-stripes and navy blue side panels

with the "Raiders" club name on the front. Club shorts are navy with pin stripes and light blue side panels.
