Diggers Rest’s winning streak was extended to 11 matches on Saturday when the Burras easily accounted for Melton Centrals in the Riddell District Football League.

It was a big day on and off field at Arnolds Creek, as Centrals celebrated a multicultural round, which included a come-and-try day to encourage people from all backgrounds to get involved in the game.

On the field, the result was never in doubt, with the ladder leaders doing it with ease to win 18.12 (120)-9.7 (61).

It was set up in the first half, when the Burras restricted the Centrals to one goal.

Joseph Piccolo kicked four for the Burras, while James Aquilina kicked three goals for Centrals.

Former AFL player Cale Morton was best on ground, while Michael Evans was named in Centrals’ best two for a fourth straight game.

Meanwhile, Rockbank was no match for Rupertswood at Ian Cowie Reserve.

Eleven scoring shots to two in the first quarter showed the Sharks’ intent and they went on to win 29.25 (199)-3.4 (22).

Alan Greenwood, Jared Warrick and Harley Cameron were the goal scorers for the Rams, with Thomas Mainey named their best.

This weekend Diggers Rest faces Romsey, Rockbank plays Lancefield and Melton Centrals travels to Macedon.
