Dear Members and SMFC Followers,
I would like to take the opportunity to post some positive and exciting information about SMFC (seniors) and what the future will bring for the club. We had the club AGM on the 14/9/16 and this was a positive and motivating meeting where some of the old trusts have decided to pass the baton over and we have a new group at the helm for 2017. We are hoping to build on the fantastic work that happened over the past few years and to not only keep ...the place going but also help the club grow and thrive.
Lenny Hocky, Luke Dean, and Peter Dean have decided to step down from the committee after a few tumultuous years of running the club and I would personally like to thank all these clubman for the hard work, dedication and time out of your lives you committed to the club to help us keep the lights on and stay alive. Without people like you football clubs can’t exist let alone provide opportunities for people to play footy. So to Lenny, Pete and Luke, from the players, coaches and support staff we thank you and appreciate everything you have done for us (even if we don’t say it).
Although we say goodbye for now, no doubt we will see you down there for a beer and watching us from the sidelines.
As the baton is passed we are very excited to announce that we will have a new 7 man committee consisting of myself, Nick Katiforis, Ray Austin, Luke Wade, Ben Hallas, Aaron Davidson and Col Austin. We have a great mix of old and new, past and present players who are very passionate about the club. I can speak for the committee when I say that we are all pumped and have a very positive outlook on what the future brings.
Construction of the new Pavilion at Citation Oval is scheduled to commence early 2017 with the aim that it will be fully operational for the 2018 season with new netball courts to follow. From the pictures that are around the club at the moment this is going to be a first class development.
We are also very pleased to announce the re-appointment of the 2016 coaching team with Grant Ryan as Head coach and Aaron Davidson as Assistant Coach signing on for 2017. Pup and Wombat were instrumental in stabilising the club in 2016 and creating a foundation we can build on. Although we may not have seen too many wins in 2016, what we did see was the establishment of an honest, healthy and supportive attitude towards football within the playing group which with it brought the unearthing of some fresh talent and some fun times. We now have a foundation in which we can build something special so get on board. We expect to see many of the players back next year to do it all again and hopefully go a bit deeper into the season. #toottoot2017
The club will endeavour to update everyone as news breaks so watch this space.
