Tommorow at around 2:00pm Andrew Horsburgh will run onto Thomas Carr College oval for the 250th time for the club. A great milestone in anyones book, it's made that little bit more special for the fact that Burra has done a lot more for the club than playing 250 games.
Buzz first ran out onto the ground for Old Westbourne way back in 1991, in the clubs inaugral year. Along the way he has seen the club go from its lowest ebb to it's highest peak. His record speaks for itself on the field, he is the
leading games record holder,
2nd leading goal kicker for the club behind his brother Justin,
5 time best and fairest winner (and a runner up on a number of occassions). And you might as well throw
past senior captain into the mix as well..
In 2004 after many long years of slogging it out, Old Westbourne realised its greatest dream, to win a senior premiership. And sure enough, Burra was there to play in the clubs first ones flag.
Off the field Burra has been a
committee member for 13 years, 12 of those as
Secretary of the club. Just take a look at the honour board (when we finally get it up) and you'll see only a couple of names consistently up there, and one of them will be Burra's
As if he hasn't done enough for the club, Burra has this year taken on the
Reserves Coaching role before he runs out for the seniors.
Known in his earlier days for his "white line fever", this was simply confused for the passion he has for the Warriors. Hard in for the ball, and with skills and speed to match anyone he came up against, Burra is a match winner and has his name regularly in the best.
I'm sure everyone would agree that tommorow will be a memorable day for the club, and for Burra , and it would be great to see many of the past players and supporters come down to see him run out for the 250th time.
From all Old Westbourne AFC committee, players, officials and supporters, congratulations Burra.
