The Inverell Saints will take on yet another finals bound team this weekend when they travel to Tamwoth to face the Swans. The 2009 TAFL Premiers are quietly going about their business as the competition nears the pointy end of the season and will be a stern test for the Saints. The last time these teams met the Swans travelled to Inverell vastly understrength and that match provides no form line for this clash.
For the Saints, this match marks the third consecutive week facing a top 4 side, but this is arguably the toughest of all three matches as the Saints travel to Number One Oval to take on the red hot Swans. The Saints will be bolstered by the return of Auskickers Matt Harrison and Dave Vidovic, but appear to have lost Bart Tomlinson to injury from last week's match, as well as outgoing veterans Bruce Wall and Nathan Munro. Both Wall and Munro looked to have played their last match for the Saints, after both making their debut in the red, black and white way back in 2005.
The key to this match looks to be in the midfield. TAFL Power captain Gavin Knee will provide headaches all day for the Saints through the middle with his ability to read the play always proving effective to stop any Saints rebounding out of defense. The Saints will look to Tom Williams to provide his usual run and carry through the middle, with Justin Pay again likely to play in the ruck following 2 massive games in the past 2 weeks against much taller opponents. Mick Viney has been in supreme form this season, establishing a clear lead in the TAFL goalkicking race and will once again be an integral part of the Saints gameplan. Captain Chris Whitton is also in rare form, popping up with a couple each week, even if it is at the expense of his team mates wrapping around him for the easy handball.
Once again, this match should be an absolute cracker and one that will have huge ramifications for the TAFL top 4. All the action starts at 2pm in Tamworth.
