Round 15

League Women – Tracy Village Jets v Eagles (Thursday)

The Tracy Village Jets racked up win number 14 for the season on Thursday night, dumping the Eagles 75-51. The favourites for this year’s Grand Final in early December were very clinical in dispatching the Birds after jump starting the game with a 21-11 first quarter run led by captain Sam Rioli who hit 8 of her 13 points in the quarter. The Eagles kept it a fairly close affair for the first half thanks to the accurate shooting from Trish Graham who hit 16 of her team and game high 20 points. But after the half time break the Jets lifted off again to hit 22-11 during the third term to take a winning 20 point lead into the last quarter at 59-39. Four Jets hit double figures with Tikesa Docherty-Cole leading the way with 14, Rioli 13 and Delsey Ah Wang & Frances Fatowna 10 each. Lending support to Graham was Jasmine Stovall with 11 and Ashley-Marie Williams with 10. The Jets have to date only lost 8 games in their last 149 and this win is their eighth in a row.

Uni Rebels v Lightning

The Uni Rebels may have shut the door on any playoff aspirations the Lightning might have had with a 62-50 win on Friday night. The Rebels didn’t hit their stride until the second quarter when they added to their first quarter lead with a 20-9 run that gave them a game winning 35-21 half time lead. The 14 point buffer was all they needed to claim their 8th win of the season. A win tomorrow in a make-up game against the Lightning would give the Rebels a share of second place on the ladder and a possible double shot at the Grand Final. The Kowcun sisters, Ambah & Annelise, combined for 31 points to lead the Rebels to the win. Edith Boundry also hit double figures with 14. Kira Pendlebury led the Lightning with 15 and Brittany Ward added 10.

Razzle v Ansett

Ansett looks set to finish the season in second place on the ladder after routing the Razzle 82-43. The ladder position would give the Blues two shots at toppling the Tracy Village Jets if they are to succeed in capturing the Grand Final. The Blues need to win against the Eagles next week to insure their second place finish as the Uni Rebels are still an outside chance to tie the Blues and then it would come down to win/loss against each other or percentage. The Blues have won two of the three meetings between the teams this season. Either way it will be an exciting end to the season before playoffs. This game against the Razzle was pretty much over by half time with the Blues leading 43-12. Kisha Lee hit a game high 27 for the Blues with 16 from Ashton Eaton and 11 from Tamara Sheppard. Erin Boyd dropped in 19 for the Razzle.

Ladder:           Tracy Village Jets 14-1, Ansett 8-6, Eagles 7-8, Uni Rebels 7-6, Lightning 5-8 & Razzle 1-13

Men Round 16

League Men – Ansett v Tracy Village Jets (Thursday)

Travis Ellis pumped in 29 points to lead the Tracy Village Jets to a 91-77 win in their last regular season match. The Jets were down 4-0 to the Blues before they found the range and then ripped off 8pts to nil to take a lead that they never surrendered for the remainder of the game. By half time the score was 46-31 in favour of the Jets and although the Blues won the second half 46-45 they never looked like making up the first half deficit. Jett Sukcharoen was second best for the Jets in scoring with 16, Henry Callander netted 12 and Rohan Cropley hit 11. John King remained a constant for the Blues with a team high 22, Fred Webb hit 17, Matteo Rowse 11 and Jake Feeney 10 (7 from the stripe).

Eagles v Razzle

The Eagles finished off their regular season with a whopping 116-46 win over the Razzle. The Birds had no mercy for the Green & Gold as they piled on the points in each quarter. Seven players hit double figures with Deola D’Folarin heading the cast with 25, Reece Turner had 16, Henry Bui & Dirk Steenbergen 14 each, 12 to Lachlan Shipway, 11 to Jesse Williams-Hook and 10 to Ernest Holmes. Nathan Radonich hit 16 for the Razzle with Stuart Peach on 12.

Palmerston Power v Uni Rebels

Game of the night was between defending champs Uni Rebels and the Palmerston Power. Power were hoping to nail this one to win their first ever minor premiership, however, it was not to be as the Rebels topped them 72-65. The return to action by Marcus Ch’ng who had been nursing an injury during the Rebels last three losses in a row had a huge impact on Rebel fortunes. Ch’ng led from the front with 24 points. Tyler Jefferson nailed 16, Thomas Uppena 11 and David Ronchi 10. Palmerston took an early 21-16 first quarter lead, but only held a one point advantage at the half 33-32. After the break the Rebels went on a 22-15 tear that gave them a 54-48 lead with a quarter to play. The last quarter was almost even with Ch’ng taking control down the stretch hitting 6 freebies from the charity stripe to finish the quarter with 10 of his total. Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson led the Power with 24, Jesse Bell had 20 and Thomas Godwin 15. The Power may have lost out on the minor premiership, but they still have a chance at taking out the Grand Final.

Ladder:   Uni Rebels 12-4, Palmerston Power 11-5, Tracy Village Jets 9-7, Eagles 8-7, Ansett 6-9, Lightning 6-8 & Razzle 1-13

Next week Round 12 make-up game:    Friday – Lightning v Razzle 8:00pm court 2
