League Women –Lightning v Tracy Village Jets

And the beat goes on…win number 17 for the season and 24th in a row for the minor premier Tracy Village Jets who easily beat Lightning 76-44. There doesn’t seem to be any team in the competition that can stay with the undefeated Bombers when they hit the court. The Bombers have won every game this season by more than twenty points except for one which they won by ten. This one was similar to the rest with the Bombers blasting out in the first quarter to a 24-6 lead and then holding off any challenges from the opposition for the remainder of the game. Guard Sam Rioli (18.5ppg) led a group of four players in double figures with 18. Tania Dhu (7ppg) hit 14, Abby Cubillo 13 and Kylie Duggan 11. Best for Lightning was Ashleigh Houghton with 7.

Palmerston v Ansett

Palmerston did it again, knocked off a playoff bound team for their third win in a row. Tessa Hart (5.8ppg) hit a season and game high 20 for the Power (13 in the second half) as they powered past the Blues from Ansett 54-31 to lift themselves off of the bottom of the ladder. The Blues jumped out to a 12-7 first quarter lead, but the Power got their act together and won the remaining three quarters for the victory. The Blues were without a number of starters, but as they say…a win is a win and the Power was happy to grab it. Shinade Douglas (5ppg) supported Hart with 10 while Chelsea Cook (10.5ppg) took the honours for the Blues with a team high 19.

Eagles v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels dispatched the Eagles 46-34 to solidify their second placed spot on the ladder. They now hold a two game advantage over Lightning for the double change in the playoffs. There are only three rounds left of the regular season. The Rebels charged out to an 11-4 first quarter lead behind the shooting of Dana Rommel, but the Birds didn’t wilt as they have done on too many occasions this season, they played the Rebels even during a 9-9 run to be adrift 20-13 at the half. After the break the Rebels put in another strong effort during a 13-6 run that spelled the end for the Birds despite the impact import Kymira Woodberry (12) had on the game. Woodberry (18.6ppg) has been nursing an injured knee since a loss to the Rebels in Round 9 and hasn’t played since then. Captain Jaylene Boundry (6.1ppg) led the Rebels with 12 and Rommel (17.8ppg) finished with 9.

Ladder:                                                      Tracy Village Jets 17-0, Uni Rebels 11-1-4, Lightning 9-1-7, Ansett 7-10, Palmerston 3-14 & Eagles 3-0-13-1

Next Week Nov. 8th Round 18     Tracy Village Jets vPalmerston 6:15pm, Uni Rebels v Ansett 7:45pm & Eagles v Lightning 9:15pm

League Men –Razzle v Eagles

Buster Perkins dropped 26 points on Razzle to lead the Eagles to an easy 87-51 win. Razzle fell away early in the game as the Birds flew off to a 22-7 lead after one quarter of play and continued to build on that lead for the remainder of the game. Perkins (17.1ppg) had plenty of support from Ernest Holmes (16 @ 7.4ppg), Michael Pearce (15) and Jesse Williams-Hook (11). Ben Cowcher did most of the damage for the green and gold with 17 points followed by Robert Oliver & James Panton with 10 each. The Eagles hit 11 treys during the match, accounting for 33 of their total points output.

Uni Rebels v Palmerston

Palmerston put another nail in the coffin of the Uni Rebels with a come from behind 90-76 win that shot them back into second place on the ladder. The Rebels started out ok with a 18-10 first quarter run, but started to slip behind in the second quarter as the Power made a run at them to trail by only one point at the half 32-31. Jesse Bell (20.2ppg) then lit up the scoreboard in the third quarter for the Power as they pulled away during a 32-25 run for a 63-57 lead with a quarter to go. Bell hit 14 of his game high 27 in that third quarter. The momentum stayed with the Power in the last quarter as they posted a 27-19 score line for the victory. Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson (18.3ppg) dropped in 25 points for the Power in support of Bell with Robbie Wilson & Eruera Mccullough contributing 10 each. Matt Fagg (13.7ppg) led the Rebels with 20, Matt Van Pelt (14ppg) hit 16 and Jermaine Lattimore added 14.

Ansett v Lightning

John King (21.6ppg) knocked down a game high 20 points to lead playoff bound Ansett to a 64-46 win against Lightning. The Blues are still in contention for the double chance but will have to hope that Palmerston loses a game or two in the coming weeks, and they will have to keep winning of course. The Blues used a 19-11 second quarter run to break up a close game for a 33-21 lead at the break. Lightning managed to just stay with the Blues in the third quarter but fell away in the last quarter as the Blues put together a 17-9 run to seal the game. Daniel Florance (22ppg) added 17 for the Blues and Ross Vasic hit 10. Import Craig Martin (16ppg) returned to the court for the Lightning after missing a dozen games and hit a team high 15 with Thomas Godwin (6.5ppg) adding 10.

Ladder:                                           Eagles 12-2, Palmerston 10-3, Ansett 9-6, Tracy Village Jets 9-4, Uni Rebels 6-8, Lightning 2-11 & Razzle 0-14
