Redland go back to the Future

The Redland football club is proud to announce that for the first time since 2001 both the senior football club and junior football club will play in the same playing jumpers.

The split occurred back in 2002 when the Bombers, newly promoted to the AFLQ state league, had to understandably drop the Sharks name and jumper due to the Southport Sharks already playing in the league. With the Bombers residing at the Sharks sporting club, and the juniors having played under the Sharks banner for close to forty years it was understandable that they were reluctant to shift to the Bombers jumper and due to a clash with the Yeronga juniors, it would not have been a legitimate option either.

Therefore the juniors remained in the old Sharks jumper and for the past 11 years both clubs have played under a different name and Guernsey.

However in 2013 that is set to change. Rather than invent a new jumper both committee’s have come to a common ground and agreed that both groups will play in the clubs original heritage jumper worn between 1970 and 1983.

The white and red strip saw the Redland seniors win their first ever premiership in 1975 against Sherwood running out victors 7.11 – 53 to 6.7 – 43.

The Bombers have worn this jumper as their clash strip for the last three years but will wear it full time in all home and away games from 2013 onwards. Both clubs will remain the ‘Sharks’ and ‘Bombers’ but the jumper change is one step closer to reuniting the two sporting bodies.

At the clubs Family day on the 15th of March junior players will participate in clinics with their senior mentors and will then have the opportunity to present them with their new playing Guernseys at the jumper presentation.
