Local Junior Adam Oxley Becomes a Pie

Adam Oxley has been rewarded for his stellar 2012 NEAFL season by being selected at Pick 39 by Collingwood in the AFL Rookie Draft held on December 11.

The recently turned 20 year old from Redland Bay had a breakout season which included a Round 2 NEAFL NAB Rising Star nomination, selection in the NEAFL Northern Conference Under 21 side, a top five finish in the Bombers Best and Fairest (Dowling Medal), and was named on a half back flank in the NEAFL Northern Conference “Team of the Year”.

Oxley played 10 seasons of junior football with the Redland Sharks amassing just under 200 games. He represented the Queensland Under 18 Scorpions in 2010/11 but it has been his 2012 season that has seen Oxley (194cm/80kg) serve notice of his developing talents.

Bombers Club Development Manager Phil Carse was elated with Oxley’s selection and stated “The Club is thrilled to have a Redland local who has gone through ten years of junior footy, graduated onto the senior list and into NEAFL ranks, and now finds himself with an opportunity at the Collingwood Football Club. It highlights the pathway that Redland FC and AFL Queensland offer”.

“The Redland Football Club is extremely proud of the development pathway it has in place that has now seen 9 players graduate to AFL lists in some form over the past seven years”.

“Adam is an outstanding individual who has developed as a player and mentor to younger Redland footballers. I hope his selection aspires many junior players at our club to follow in his footsteps” Carse added.

Congratulations from all at Redland Football Club to Adam who immediately commences the journey to assimilating and then earning the respect of all at Collingwood Football Club as he looks to establish his career with the Pies.
