AFL Concussion Management Guidelines

AFL Concussion Management Guidelines

Attached is a copy of the revised AFL guidelines for the Management of Concussion in Community Football and associated materials, including an introductory article. The brochure is accompanied by a poster and the pocket SCAT2 card. There is also a document produced to assist general practitioners in managing concussion in players who are referred to them which has been developed as part of the overall package. This material has been published on the AFL Community Club website and will be distributed to coaches, umpires and club contacts through the AFL Community Development Newsletter. These concussion guidelines have been published by the AFL as a Position Statement on the Management of Concussion in Australian Football.  It is based on guidelines developed by the AFL Medical Officers’ Association which incorporate research that has been funded by the AFL Research Board and which was undertaken by Dr Michael Makdissi and Assoc Prof Paul McCrory. The community guidelines have been produced following the introduction of the new concussion management guidelines introduced for the 2011 AFL season.
