Cats honour club legends
The Cooma Cats have honoured two of the club’s modern legends with the awarding of Life Membership to Damien Asanovski and Ian Tucker.
Damien has played over 300 games for the Cats, won numerous awards and in recent years has coached the senior side in an incredible example of commitment and community service.
Meanwhile Ian, who played over 250 games for the Cats, has in recent years undertaken tireless off-field work in the areas of fund-raising, sponsorship, and facilities and social development which has seen the club become a well regarded community sporting organisation in the area.

Cooma Cats set to acknowledge sponsors
The Cooma Cats AFL Club will be thanking their sponsors at the annual “Sponsors Dinner” on Saturday, 20 August.
Following the success of the inaugural Cats’ Sponsors Dinner last year, the club will be again inviting its valued sponsors to a meal and update on how the club is progressing.
Cooma Cats club president Dave Paterson said it was important for the club to provide a forum where it could update its sponsors on what the Cats have been doing throughout the year, and what the plans are for season 2012.
Cats paint Old West pink for annual fundraiser
The Cooma Cats will be painting the Old West “pink” this weekend as part of their major fundraising program for Season 2011.
The Cats’s major sponsor Dodds Hotel will be turned into an Old West saloon for the club’s annual Casino Night which is being run to raise funds for the club and its chosen charity, the McGrath Foundation.

Cats embrace solid AFL competition with good start to 2011
The Cooma Cats have used an early season bye to take stock of their progress so far in the 2011 Canberra AFL Division Competition.
According to club president Dave Paterson, the Cooma Cats are well positioned after four rounds of the season to make a positive impact on the competition this season.
"We play in a very strong 12-team competition comprising of clubs from Canberra, Goulburn, Yass and Cootamundra - so we have a good mix of city and country footballers of all levels to test ourselves against on a weekly basis," Dave said.
In 2011 the Snowy Supercats junior AFL club is taking the next step in its development with the submission of an under 16’s team in the ACT Junior AFL competition.
Cooma Cats junior development officer Stuart Wood said the Under 16 side will complement the club’s Auskick Under 12’s and Snowy Supercats Under 14 teams already in the competition and bring the total number of junior players of AFL locally to around 60.
Cats unveil new jumper for 2011 and beyond
The new strip includes a tribute to the club’s history with its foundation year “1976” on the back above the number – honouring the club’s past and all those who have been associated with the club through good times and not so good.
And on the front, a uniquely stylized “Cat” takes pride of place representing the club’s future.
“The new jumper honours our past and represents our future,” Cats coach Damien Asanovski said.
“It symbolizes what we have been working hard on in relation to our club culture which pays respect to our past and sees a club today based on a strong community and family philosophy and which plays footy for fun,” he said.
AFL players and fans from the coast, Canberra and the Snowy Mountains have come together again for a successful final pre-season hit out in the annual Cooma Cats Cup played last Saturday in Cooma (19 March 2011).
Club president Dave Paterson said this year’s event, the third of its type, was another great effort by the Cooma Cats in staging a significant AFL carnival here on the Monaro.
“In the scheme of things, the Cooma Cats are a small footy club and run by a handful of passionate people keen to keep AFL alive in the region.
“And then to be able to bring a showcase event like this to the community with over 200 players and fans coming to Cooma to play in a knock-out competition as a key part of their final pre-season training program makes you proud to be associated with the club,” Dave said.
The Cooma Cats will honour the club’s past when they launch their 2011 season this Saturday (2 April). After their opening round clash with league new comers Tuggeranong at Snowy Oval at 1pm, the Cooma Cats will hold a Season Launch Dinner and official opening of the club’s new “Hall of Fame” and Memorabilia Room at Dodds Hotel. The opening of the Hall of Fame and Memorabilia Room at Dodds Hotel represents a significant milestone for the club as it finally gives the Cats a “home” to publically display their history and honour past players and officials.
Talking Cats, the region's only dedicated AFL radio program, will be back on air on 2MNO next month as part of the Cooma Cats’ efforts to bring AFL to more people across the Snowy Mountains and the Monaro. Launched last season on Community Radio 2MNO, Talking Cats quickly won itself a loyal audience on Sunday evening interested in all things AFL.
The Cooma Cats AFL Club is continuing to embrace New Media in an effort to support its communications objective and inform the community about the club’s results, news and activities. As part of its New Media engagement strategy, the Cooma Cats have up-to-date and informative web and blog sites, and its very own YouTube TV Channel.
The Snowy Mountains' own AFL Club, the Cooma Cats, is on the prowl for fans, ex-players and AFL supporters across the Monaro and Snowy Mountains. In 2010, the Club launched the Cats’ Social Club so everyone interested in the team can officially join the Cats on their journey to bring AFL football to the region. Cats' Club President Dave Paterson said the Cats Social Club initiative was in response to a desire by many people in the area who, while unable to play footy, wanted to have a formal relationship with the club.
The Cooma Cats and the Cooma-Monaro Shire Council are continuing their strong relationship into Season 2011. On behalf of the Council, the Cooma-Monaro Shire Council’s General Manager John Vucic has accepted the Cat’s offer to retain the club’s Number One Supporters Ticket for a second year. The awarding of the Cats’ Number One Ticket to the Council is part of the Cooma’s Cats strong focus on maintaining a strong relationship with the local community.
Sportstar of the Year- Damien Asanovski- On Australia Day last week Damien (Azzo) Asanovski was "shocked yet humbled and honoured" to receive the Cooma-Monaro Shire Council's Sportsperson of the year award.
Calling all Cooma Cats of seasons past – the Cats of 2011 are seeking your memorabilia.
In an effort to honour the Club’s great past since being formed in 1976, the Cooma Cats have launched a campaign in 2011 to develop a lasting memorabilia display where the club’s history can come to life for all players and supporters, past and present, to enjoy.
The Cooma Cats and Snowy SuperCats Juniors are back on the training track for season 2011 next Tuesday (11 January) and all players and supporters, new and old, are welcome. Cooma Cats Club President Dave Paterson said the club was looking forward to building on last year’s on field success which saw the seniors increase the number of games won over previous years, and the juniors (Under 14 SuperCats) make the finals in only their second season.
