Tuggeranong Hawks go pink for breast cancer
This coming weekend the Tuggeranong Hawks NEAFL side will turn pink as players celebrate the fourth annual Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) Pink Footy & Netball Day.
BCNA’s Pink Footy & Netball Day is a chance for footy clubs across Australia to show their support for, and pay tribute to, women from their local communities who have been affected by breast cancer. The Tuggeranong Hawks and their families are affected as much as any community, with mothers, sisters, and friends suffering from breast cancer.
“Pink Footy Day” is great opportunity for the whole community to put on a show of strength and support for women affected by breast cancer,” Tuggeranong Football Club’s General Manager, David Graham said. “We hope that everyone will come down, get involved and cheer on the teams.”
Tuggeranong play Ainslie, who were delighted to provide their support for the pink footy day events. “The Hawks had the bye on Mother’s Day weekend, which is traditionally when Pink Footy Day takes place” said David Graham “so we wanted to make sure we still showed our support by going pink the following weekend and that we did our bit to support this worthy cause and to highlight awareness about the good work that the Breast Cancer Network of Australia performs in the community.”
“I’m looking forward to the pink footy socks” said Hawks NEAFL Captain Alex Lawder. “The boys love wearing them to show their support, there’s not a single player who isn’t keen to pull on the pink socks this Saturday and show that as a club we support this great cause” Alex went on to say “the support shown by two of our sponsors in One Sportswear and Bakers Delight Lanyon just typifies how much the community want to get behind such a worthy cause”.
