Purpose of Wembley Junior Basketball Club

The broad objective of the Club is to:

• Provide access for students of Wembley Primary School (and children of the surrounding locality) to participate in the sport of basketball throughout their primary school years, and beyond if they wish;
• Encourage the development of physical fitness and skill acquisition through training, play and competition;
• To nurture the development of socially desirable attitudes and values toward sport , competitors, coaches and officials;
• To facilitate the development of childhood friendships.

The Wembley Junior Basketball Club encourages all team members to develop a positive attitude and skills to play basketball. All members will receive encouragement and support to reach their full potential in a fun, safe environment. All team members, regardless of ability should receive reasonable court time. Friendship and teamwork are seen as important aspects of the game.

As a domestic club our main focus is not on winning at all costs but on participation. There is a well trodden pathway for players that want to play higher grades of basketball. Domestic basketball is the first step on that journey.

Representative basketball provides the next step where hours of training are expected and winning is very much the focus of the clubs.

Club Rules and Constitution

Wembley Junior Basketball Club is an Incorporated Association registered with Consumer Affairs Victoria.

Date Registered: 15 May 2006

The Club ratified new rules at the AGM 2018 which means we have our own guidelines modified from the generic Basketball Victoria rules.

Club Structure

Teams are Coached and managed by parents. Prior experience is not necessary as coaching guidance and assistance can be provided. The Club adheres to a policy whereby all team coaches and persons directly involved with the coaching and the management of the team are screened prior to involvement with any team. This is done via an application for and holding of a Working with Children Check (WWCC) and a satutory declaration required by Baskerball Victoria. All parents are expected to support fundraising activities. These activities are used to support training, equipment, organisation fees and other costs incurred by the Club.

Our Club is run by a voluntary Committee of Management. Current Executive Committee member details are listed in the Contact Details section of this website. Parents of registered players are encouraged and welcome to attend Committee meetings and/or join the Committee.

Please contact the Secretary for more information. The Committee relies on the support of parents to volunteer to assist in coaching teams, fundraising, team management and scoring at games. Without this support teams will be unable to play.

All Committee meetings will be run against an agenda. Club members can request that specific items be added to the agenda prior to each meeting.

Representatives from each team are expected to atted the Annual General Meeting held in the second half of each year. The Committee is disolved each year and fresh nominations are held for each position.
