Round 4 14th May 2017

Round 4 - Under 12 v Mt Evelyn

There was a high level of energy in the rooms prior our much anticipated Round 4 Mothers Day clash against an undefeated Mt Evelyn Under 12 side.
With great conditions for football, the boys were challenged to "bring their A game" and from the first bounce they certainly didn't disappoint with a fantastic opening quarter.
Led out onto the ground by Captain of Day Charlie Eames the boys dominated the play early... Ripleigh Hayes was winning every contest in the ruck giving our forwards lots of opportunities.  Liam Bradford and Felix Hatherley were looking very dangerous and it was great to see Liam being rewarded with two goals in the opening quarter.  Luca Smith was back to his best form working hard in the middle and up forward. I was very pleased for Luca (and the team) when he went back and kicked truly from a set a shot to secure another goal for the young bloods.
Despite not feeling 100%, Nick Reid was working well out on the wing and Blair Wilson was solid as a rock across half back rebounding any attempts Mt Evelyn made to surge forward.  Percy Hyatt was leading by example and kicked a wonderful goal to see the young bloods go into the quarter time break with a four goal lead.
As we expected, My Evelyn fought back strongly in what was a hard, tough and fiercely contested game for the remaining three quarters..
The second quarter saw some great individual defensive efforts by Bon Sullivan, Nick Whyman and Lachie Bates as Mt Evelyn's applied lots of pressure kicking two behinds and keeping Olinda scoreless for the quarter..
The third quarter was much same with Mt Evelyn kicking an early goal as the pressure mounted...  As the ball bounced back and forth between ends, there was some great, tough Under 12 football on display.  The young bloods had their opportunities to apply some additional scoreboard pressure however were unable to kick that elusive goal managing just 4 behinds for the quarter.  Mt Evelyn kicked a goal late to set the scene for an exciting last quarter.
With injuries to Jesse Selby and Cooper Spurrel we were left with no bench as Mt Evelyn continued to take up the challenge to Olinda.. As he had done all day, Ned Ford was working tirelessly winning the hard / contested footy whilst Menzie was doing a solid job across half back as the Young Bloods managed to stay strong and hold on for a much deserved victory...
A great game of Under 12's footy and one for which all our players should be very proud.  The team continue to impress and I look forward to what lies ahead in coming weeks as we continue to come up against some quality opposition.
Congratulations to Isaac Tonkin for not only a great game but for being recognised by Mt Evelyn for his good sportsmanship in assisting an opposition player who was injured.  Well Done Isaac, it great to see you living and upholding the OFCJFC values....
Also - thanks you all our great Mum's for their ongoing support... HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY.... I hope you all had a lovely day and were spoilt by the young lads....
