Firstly before we get onto the footy a BIG congratulations to those who organised, helped out & participated in the Tiger Music Awards. It was a fantastic evening with 200+ people attending witnessing some great music videos. I’m sure now the standard has been set this event will be bigger and better again next year.
Last game we took on Wedderburn at home. The Under 13s come up against an undermanned Redbacks side and had the game wrapped up by three quarter time with the mercy rule coming in to play. It was great to see some of our players helping out and playing for the opposition with plenty of boys taking their turn with no complaints. Best Players: Hamish Pickering, Cruz O’Sullivan, Will Conlan, Cooper Allan, Sam Harker, Tye Griffiths
The Under 16s also come up against an undermanned opposition and had a huge win by 128 points, it was good to see the boys not get carried away and still play a good team game as that’s what they will need to produce come September. Best players: Tyson Hickey, Rylee McGarry, Tyson McKenzie, Thomas Pearce, Connor Michael
The Reserves certainly had a day to forget, while the first quarter margin wasn’t too bad it was the Redbacks kicking 7.5 to the Tigers 1 point that did the damage. So wise words from Wemyss at half time got the boys going a little bit as they outscored the Redbacks in the third term but that’s as far as it went with the Redbacks running away with it in the last. Best Players: Drew McClelland, Jesse Poulton, Taylor Hannig, James Feary, Tom Considine, Zac Wemyss
This was always a danger game for the seniors as we struggled against the Redbacks last time. The Tigers started slow which was disappointing as that’s 2 weeks in a row now. With the Redbacks leading by 2 goals at quarter time the Tigers finally kicked into gear in the second with a 7 goal to 3 quarter to come in leading by 2 goals. The Tigers then did what they had done over the past few weeks and built on their lead in the last half to win by 28 points. The Collins boys were solid at both ends of the ground while JD kicked another 5 and Nath chipped in with 3. Best: Jason Collins, Brad Collins, Kyle Brasser, Ryan Craig, Luke Martin, Jack Poulton
Netball:
A tough day against the benchmark club of the league but all girls played their hearts out and gave their all.
In the 13Bs the girls continue to improve each time they take the court. Brooke Braddock won the award. Thank you to Jodi McClelland and Jo Simpson for organising the girls to attend the Lightning Premiership and to all parents who transported the girls and helped on the day. Also thanks to Shauna Cox and Rene Griffiths for umpiring.
The 13A team played some good passages but were outclassed by a well drilled team 37 to 12. Keep listening to your coaches, apply what you have been shown and come out firing next week. Charlee Hewlett won Ash Robert’s $5.
Our 16B girls played a great first half but the Redbacks got away from them as the game progressed and they went down 20 to 26. Sophie Martin won the encouragement award and Hannah Cox the “Hair on Best” award. Nakia is to be admired for the passion she puts into her coaching and the way she accommodates so many girls into her team. What an asset to our club.
The 16A team played great pressure netball but although they came close to Wedderburn could not bridge the gap. This team have improved so much in their determination and ability to pressure their opponents. Heidi Simpson won the club $5. W 34 d SLNT 26.
C grade was a closer game than the final score indicated and these girls are gelling well as a team under Sam’s guidance. The girls went down 39 to 26 and Jessica Barbary won the East Charlton Hotel award for a solid game in different positions.
Our B graders were never in the hunt and even positional changes couldn’t make inroads to the score going down 76 to 33. Claudia Cox played a great defensive game to win Lacey Elliott’s massage. Thank you to the 16A and C grade girls who stepped up.
The A graders pushed Wedderburn for the first half but couldn’t handle the height advantage in the second half. Asela Finch won the TMC Enviro towel in a 48 to 33 defeat. Best wishes to Shelley De Araugo for a speedy recovery.
Hockey: Sometimes it's imperative that you look at a situation with perspective - it's our second year of playing hockey and we can't expect to be winning when we are all learning new things. But last week on the hockey field, should make all Tigers proud.
In the Minkey, we had one official game and one unofficial game of Tigers vs Tigers - it is great that we have so many enthusiastic players ready to wield that stick.
In the under 13s, we had a great win, goal scorers included Brock Crowe, Angus Collins, Astin McClelland and Maggie Stacey. But just as equally important as the win, was seeing multiple kids put their hand up to make numbers up for the Wedderburn team.
Our underage team played a fiercely competitive game, managed to score 1 goal and keep Wedderburn to only 2. Considering Wedderburn sit second on the ladder in this grade, it's a great effort. And it is now two weeks in a row that this team have scored a goal!
In the women's game, Tigers went down by five goals. Each individual player had a personal goal to work towards, it was good to see the players ticking these off.
The Men's game was a great turn around since we last played Wedderburn. Grant Alday scored a goal, with final score being 1-3.
Awards: Astin McClelland (Under 13), Rylee McGarry (Underage), Alli Elliott (Women's), Damien Leo (Men's).
SOCIAL EVENT - Tigers Music Video Awards. Well done to all who got involved and attended the night. It was the first of such an event, but sure to not be the last. Massive thanks to Chan, Cass and Stace for organising, and Ben, Selina and Dennis for the catering plus anyone else that gave a helping hand.
Go Tiges!
