On another perfect winters day we hosted the Demons at home.
The under 13s after coming off their first loss for the year were keen to get back to their winning ways. The tigers started off strongly in the first quarter opening up a 22 point lead, the boys then built on that and extended it out to 51 at half time. The tigers then put the game well beyond reach in the third and finished off the game in a solid 4 quarter effort to run out 65 point winners. Best Players: T. Cox, T. Dalbon, N. Barbary, A. Collins, G. Simpson, J. Cox
With no Under 16s this week it was onto the Reserves who this week had been bolstered by some players returning to the seniors. After an even first quarter the tigers kicked 4 goals to the demons 0 in the second quarter to hold a handy 27 point lead. It was the demons however who had the better third quarter getting themselves back into the game to be with in a goal at the last change. To our boys credit they dug deep when they had to and kicked away in the last to record a 32 point win. Rentzy continued his solid form in front of the big sticks with anther 7. Best Players: P. Cox, D. McClelland, N. Clohesy, T. Monaghan, O. Richardson, J. Arentz
The seniors welcomed back some key players from injury to take on the top of the ladder demons. The first quarter tight and contested and set the tone for the day, the demons edged in front to lead by 13 points at quarter time which turned out to be the biggest margin either way for the day. The tigers rallied in the second quarter to outscore the demons 4 goals to 1 to take a 2 point lead at the main break. In what was a see sawing contest the demons reclaimed the lead in the third to go into the last quarter with a 4 point lead. The tigers responded early in the last kicking the first goal to regain the lead, the demons then got a lucky one via a 50m penalty to edge back in front and followed it up with another. The tigers then rallied again never loosing hope to kick the next 2 in a row to hit the lead again. Unfortunately in the dying minutes the demons kicked a miraculous 1 in 100 shot goal from the boundary line to reclaim the lead to run out winners by 6 points. With plenty of good signs shown from that game let’s hope the tigers can use that performance as the benchmark for the rest of the year and they won’t go too far wrong. Best Players: B. Collins, R. O''Sullivan, L. Martin, J. Collins, R. Craig, B. Mahon
Netball: After a foggy morning a beautiful day was had for netball. There were no 13B or 16A games but many 16A girls stepped up to help fill vacancies in senior teams, looking completely at home.
The highlight of the day was the Net Set Go game, the girls all had a great time under coach Tammy and we thank Wycheproof Narraport for offering to play.
The 13A girls combined well and played strongly to win 34 to 1. Congratulations to the demon girls for their persistence and great attitude. Keely Griffiths won Ash Roberts’ $5 and Bronte Michael the coaches’ encouragement award.
The 16B game was a fast, action packed game where errors were pounced upon. The tiger girls started strongly but were pegged back and went down narrowly 17 to 15. Isabella Shepherd had a great game and took home the ‘Hair on Best’ award and Karlia Hickey won the chocolate.
The C grade saw Maya Arentz and Jenna and Meg Conlan take the court for their first senior game with the club. The team played steady netball all game to earn a solid win, 66 to 36. Chelsea Michael played a ripper game in defence to win the Lacey Elliott’s massage voucher.
The B grade saw Chloe Wright play her first senior game. The girls worked well together, forcing turn overs and passing effectively. They won 52 to 13 with Bethany Emonson winning the TMC Enviro towel.
After a slow start the A grade girls slipped into a good rhythm to win 75 to 22. The team applied strong court pressure and Ebony McLean played a solid game in the centre to win the East Charlton Hotel meal voucher.
Hockey: A rewarding day on the hockey field against Wycheproof-Narraport. We had many Minkey players turn up, ready for the challenge, it's great to know kids are getting involved in hockey at an early age.
The Under 13s won, 2-1, with goal scorers being Angus Collins and Brock Crowe. The $5 SumBud award along with the GrainFlow pack went to Brodie Adams.
Underage lost, but it was a great improvement of the first game against Wycheproof's underage side, which are top on the ladder. The 'Who cares for coffee and cake' award and GrainFlow pack went to a 2017 newcomer to hockey Kyle Toohey.
The Women's side had their second win for the season, with Kylie McKenzie scoring the goal for the game. The Kaneira tea-for-two voucher and GrainFlow pack was awarded to Anita King-Gee for her efforts in defence, Anita was strong in pushing the ball out, crucial in the Tigers counter attack.
The Men's side played a great team game, resulting on points on the ladder board with a nil-all draw. It was a tight game to watch, enjoyable for the spectators. Ian Schodde was awarded the Kaneira tea-for-two and the GrainFlow pack for his speedy and skilful efforts in the forward line.
We hope all teams can keep their momentum for today against Birchip, Go Tigers!
Go Tiges!
