Officials Code of Behaviour

Heat Basketball officials are expected to act in accordance with the following code of conduct. It includes expected behaviour detailed in the Gold Coast Region Code of Conduct.

  1. Modify rules and regulations to match the skill levels and needs of young people.
  2. Compliment and encourage all participants.
  3. Be consistent, objective and courteous when making decisions.
  4. Condemn unsporting behaviour and promote respect for all opponents.
  5. Emphasise the spirit of the game rather then the errors.
  6. Encourage and promote rule changes which will make participation more enjoyable.
  7. Be a good sport yourself – actions speak louder than works.
  8. Keep up to date with the latest trends in officiating and the principles of growth and development of young people and other athletes.
  9. Remember, you set an example. Your behaviour and comments should be positive and supportive.
  10. Place the safety and welfare of the participants above all else.
  11. Give all young people a ‘fair go’ regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
  12. Do not bet on the outcome or any other aspect of the event and/or competition.
  13. Control your temper. Do not abuse, threaten or intimidate -
    -         An event or competition official;
    -         A selector, coach’s, manager or other squad official; or
    -         Any participants
  14. Report immediately to Gold Coast City Regional Basketball Association any offer of a bribe or other benefit to fix or throw an event or competition in attempt to achieve a manufactured outcome to an event or competition, or other wise influence inappropriately the outcome of any other aspects of an event or competition.
