Mullen and Johns Provide Inspiration Ahead of Championship Decider
Jarrod Mullen and Andrew Johns spoke of the importance of taking the opportunities in big matches when they both addressed the Newcastle Rebels ahead of tonight's AAMI Country Championships decider in Albury.
The Rebels will be looking to win back to back titles in the AAMI Under 18's Regional Championships when they go head to head with the Western Rams at Lavington Sportsground this evening. The Rebels will be hoping for a motivational edge after two of Newcastle's great players took time to speak with the players pre-match. Mullen, who is preparing for one of the biggest games of his career in the Country v City match, took the time to speak to the players about the opportunities that may come with a victory over their Western counterparts, the pride in representing a nursey as strong as Newcastle's and gave a few tips on handling the pre-match nerves.
Mullen said afterwards that it would provide him with a great boost if he knew the future of Newcastle were able to come away with the victory in the lead up match to the annual clash between Country and City.
Andrew Johns, arguably the greatest player of all time, made a dash straight from the airport to give the young Rebels some of his thoughts as they lead into this year's championship final. Johns, who made a phone call to Rebels coach Steve Hoppe through the week to offer his time, inspired as he shared the experiences of his youth coming through the strong Newcastle region. He spoke about playing for each other and for the players to reflect on the game's greats that have pulled on a Newcastle jersey when they themselves pull on the famous red and blue jersey this afternoon.
The resounding message from both Mullen and Johns was to take the chances when they come along. The young Rebels will now look to take their opportunity with success in the 2011 AAMI Country Championship Final.
