Narooma Devils down the Eden Tigers at Bermagui
Bob Burnside - Narooma News
In the first top grade game of Group 16 rugby league in Bermagui for around 15 years, the Narooma Devils turned on some more top class football to defeat the Eden Tigers 36-18.
The Bermagui- Cobargo club have a Reserve Grade team and link with Eden for all games. They have a number of home games and usually usually play out of Narira Oval at Cobargo but with the construction of the magnificent new sporting facilities at Dickenson Oval Bermagui they decide that they would show the Eurobodalla Shire Council what a really well thought out sporting ground looks like! The Devils were left envious!
First Grade: Narooma 36 Eden 18
Though the Devils scored a clear win against a big Eden team it was a tough game, with the Devils adding a few more to the injury list in both mens grades.
Narooma led 20-4 at half time after tries to Sterling Wynn, Yuin Campbell and Rodrigues Ceasar and two conversions to Lance Wright.
The Georgia Rocket Rodrigues Ceasar then scored the next three tries to take his tally to four for the game and ten in five first grade games this year! Tyson Moritz topped off the scoring with a neat try under the posts. Two conversions each to Lance Wright and Koorin Campbell rounded out the score.
Eden stayed in the match, scoring four tries against a tiring Devils defence but the Devils were never in real danger of defeat. A few injuries marred the win but all should be on deck next weekend.
Best for the Devils were forwards Todd Wright, Tim Keegan and Neil Graham, with Tyson Moritz tireless in general play. Rhys Pearcey once again played strongly in the centres while Sterling Wynn had his best game of the year. Youngsters Gus Wilton, Teig Wilton and Matt Swadling once again played strongly.
Reserve Grade: Bermagui-Cobargo 16 Narooma 0
Narooma Reserves had a few key players missing and it showed with quite a few dropped balls and silly mistakes. Only some great defence kept them in the game, only trailing 0-4 at the break. Two arguable tries to Bermagui-Cobargo in the second half allowed the locals to finish on top 16-0. Best for the Devils were Cameron Bargwanna, Trey Parsons and Joey Scrymgeour, with Jared McMillan trying hard and unlucky not to score in the second half. Young fullback Tyson Hastie was a casualty with a broken collarbone. Best wishes from the team mate.
Ladies League Tag: Narooma 56 Eden 6
Once again the girls got going right from the start piling on 32 points in the first 25 minutes. Five tries to Lilly Bennett and further scores by Kira Campbell, Janaija Parsons, Finn Dibden, Jayden Lonsdale and Soraya Ardler along with five goals to Jamie-Anne Wright, two to Lilly Bennet and one to Jayden contributed to a big scoreline with speed and teamwork that left the crowd gasping!
Best for the She-Devils were Jayden, Lilly, Soraya and Ellen Clarke, but all the girls contributed to the effort.
Next week the Devils are at home to the Bombala Blue Heelers who are gaining strength with every game, defeating Cooma on the weekend. The clash between the She-Devils and the Bombala High Heelers will be worth the admission price alone! The ladies play at 12 noon, the Ressies at 1pm and the First Grade at 2.30pm.
