Top Eurobodalla schools progress to next level

Sam Strong - Batemans Bay Post

Budding rugby league footballers tackled Eurobodalla school rivals at the secondary schools Country Cup trials at Mackay Park, Batemans Bay on Wednesday.

Stifling heat tested the endurance of the open, under 15s and under 13s teams from Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma High School and Carroll College as it reached 34 degrees about noon at the ground.

Batemans Bay High School’s under 13s team, Narooma’s under 15s team and Carroll College’s open’s team progressed to the Southern NSW Championships.

Narooma and Moruya’s under 15s match had a grandstand finish as Moruya leveled late to draw the match.

However, it ran out of time to score again and Narooma progressed on countback after its win against Carroll College.

National Rugby League game development officer Tim Del Guzzo and Bay Tigers’ junior president John Green refereed the matches and Damian Kennedy mentioned he had never seen so many draws at the zone level.
