Steelers Challenge Cup Semi-Finals
The Steelers Challenge Cup is at the semi-final stage with a double-header of games at Gibson Park Thirroul, sure to provide local Rugby League supporters with plenty of high quality action this Saturday.
In the first semi-final Wests tackle the Dapto Canaries who will have new captain/coach Michael Henderson on the paddock for the first time. Also debuting for Dapto is winger Rob Buesereu who comes with big wraps and could be a key signing for the club in 2016. Wests will also have some big names back with Daniel Holdsworth returning and ex-Wests Tigers prop Bryce Gibbs making his debut for the Devils.
In the second semi-final Collegians will be looking to continue last week’s impressive in bundling Queanbeyan Blues out of the competition 24-10, when they take on the reigning Challenge Cup and Illawarra Coal League premiers Helensburgh. The Tigers looked impressive in the first half of last week’s clash with Corrimal getting out to an 18-4 lead, before allowing the Cougars back into the game to the point where they had to score in the dying seconds to snatch back the win through backrower Stuart Mills. Helensburgh will have some more members of the 2015 premiership team returning to the paddock on Saturday.
Winners of both semi-finals will play off in the final on Saturday 19 March at Parrish Park Figtree, for the trophy and $5000 winner’s cheque.
