The Southern Steelers Police Rugby League Club is a new outfit joining the 2016 NSW Police Rugby League’s Sydney-based competition.

Teams will compete against each other fortnightly on Wednesdays.

The Southern Steelers team involves police officers working at the Lake Illawarra and Wollongong Local Area Commands.

All activities will take place off-duty as a social competition.

There are four members of the team that reside in the Kiama area.

The competition season will involve more than 300 police and is supported by the executive management of the NSW Police Force.

“The Southern Steelers have already experienced a great response from officers signing up, ensuring that a strong side is being developed for this year’s competition,” club president Paul Allman said.

“The team will be coached by Jye Sommers and Andrew Atkins, both from the Lake Illawarra Local Area Command.

“They are supported by an experienced committee, again all local police.”
