Greater Southern Region nominate for 2015 CRL Volunteer of the Year Awards
The Greater Southern Region of Country Rugby League have made their final recommendation for the 2015 CRL Volunteer of the Year Awards in Brian ‘Spec’ Leech from Windang Junior Rugby League Football Club.
Brian’s involvement in Rugby League in the Illawarra started as a player with Port Kembla juniors right through to seniors and became the Port Kembla senior coach while being on the committee of Windang Junior Rugby League.
Windang was formed in 1965 where Brian missed the first meeting as his wife was giving birth to their daughter. He proudly attended the second meeting and has since rarely missed one since.
He was on the Executive Committee from 1968 to 2008 when he stepped down as Club President. His current level of commitment is highlighted as he still attends all Windang Junior Rugby League and Illawarra Divisional Rugby League meetings and has been the delegate to Illawarra Division Rugby League for each of Windang’s 50 years.
Brian had very stiff competition in Louis Brooks from the Cooma Stallions and Craig Davis from the Narellan Jets who all deserve recognition of their commitment to Rugby League throughout greater southern New South Wales.
Greater Southern Regional Manager Kevin Felgate felt it was very hard to look past Brian for the Region’s 2015 nomination. ‘It’s such a wonderful achievement on so many levels for Brian. He has been with the club from its inception, has committed 50 years of service and is still active as a volunteer. It was very hard to look past someone with such distinguished resume for our nomination for 2015’.
The 2015 Country Rugby League Volunteer of the Year Awards will be held on the 22nd of August at the Holiday Inn, Potts Point in Sydney.
