Greater Southern Region kick off 2015 Academy program in Berry
The Country Rugby League Greater Southern Region kicked off their 2015 Academy program over the weekend at the Department of Sport and Recreation Complex in Berry. Under 16 and Under 17 representatives from Group 6, the Illawarra Division, Group 7 and Group 16 converged on the Complex for a 2 day intensive camp to kick-start the summer-long program.
On arrival the players were put through their paces by strength and conditioning guru David Boyle, before being broken up in to their Northern and Southern teams for skill sessions and team bonding. The NRL Education and Welfare sessions were again a guiding influence on the young players with Andrew Ryan, John Morris, Daniel Holdsworth, Brad Morrin, Jamie Feeney and Michael Hodgson lending their professional and personal experiences in rugby league. The legendary Immortal Graeme Langlands was also a guest for the weekend who shed light on stories that are etched into rugby league folklore.
Greater Southern Region Manager Kevin Felgate was ecstatic with the success of the weekend as is excited to get stuck into the rest of the program. “As we are operating within such a great geographical expanse, it is testament to the parents and coaches of these players to have them present to participate session after session. With the exceptional support we receive from the volunteer coaches, trainers and staff coupled with the NRL Game Development Officers, we are shaping up for an exciting summer.”
Field sessions will be conducted in Appin and Batemans Bay on the 29th of November for both the Northern and Southern squads.
